Fishing in Panama City

Panama City, FL fishing charters are the icing on the cake of a year-round resort town. Watersports enthusiasts flock to the numerous bays and deep waters offshore for a range of activities, and fishing ranks right up there. From the inshore lagoons to the heart of the Gulf, there's something for anglers of all kinds.

The town is surrounded by water, with the North Bay, Saint Andrew Bay, and Grand Lagoon all offering up inshore fishing. Target Floridian favorites such as Redfish and Spotted Seatrout year-round, and some delicious Flounder and Sheepshead, too. Come in summer and target tough-fighting Tarpon, along with schools of Jack Crevalle, Bonito, and many more.

You'll also find plenty of charters ready to take you out into the Gulf, where the productive reefs are swarming with prized fish. Amberjacks are so prevalent here that they've earned the nickname 'Reef Donkeys,' while Kingfish are just as ubiquitous. Don't forget about Snappers, Groupers, and Cobia, either!

Deep water enthusiasts can also find a Panama City fishing charter that caters to them. Go after monster Snappers, Groupers, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, Tuna, and Billfish. Anywhere from 35–100 miles out, there's no shortage of big game creatures waiting to take the bait, so settle in for the fishing trip of your life.

There's something for everyone in Panama City. Beginners can learn the ropes on a trip as short as two hours inshore, with angling fiends having the chance to spend a full day fishing. Nearshore trips tend to last around 6–8 hours, while offshore adventures will require at least 10 hours.

Rules & Regulations

Panama City Fishing Seasons

  • January

Mid-winter sees Trout and smaller Redfish in the grass flats. Inshore fishing can be productive, with Flounder and Triggerish available too. What better way to start the year than with a fishing adventure?

  • February

Bait is showing up near the inlet, attracting a whole host of Spanish Mackerel for you to target. If you manage to get up early or stay up late, Trout can be found inshore, with Redfish in the flats, too.

  • March

Spring is here, and plenty of Spanish Mackerel are waiting to be reeled in. Mangrove Snapper and Sheepshead are around inshore along with a few early Cobia nearshore, so there's something for everyone.

  • April

King Mackerel have joined their Spanish cousins in these productive fishing grounds, so hit the flats, reefs, and offshore water, where you can troll for Spanish Mackerel and Pompano, too.

  • May

May brings the weekends of the State Waters Red Snapper season. Plus, the Lionfish Tournament is on! Good things are also happening close to shore, with King Mackerel in good numbers for a challenge.

  • June

Long-range trips are a must at the beginning of summer. Go for Wahoo, Mahi-Mahi, Bonito, King Mackerel, and even Sailfish in the deep. June heralds in the start of peak season, so make the most of it!

  • July

The weather is hot and the fishing even hotter. Everything you could want to target is biting, so get ready for an incredible adventure wherever you head. Get your fish on like never before!

  • August

Redfish are patrolling the shallows, while Tarpon and Jacks are hiding in the secret spots. It's also a good idea to take another shot at Red Snapper on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

  • September

While vacationers make their way out of town, there's never been a better time to come. The great weather brings with it great fish, with Wahoo bite offshore, and Redfish, Pompano, Flounder, and Mackerel inshore.

  • October

The winds may force you to stay close to shore, but this is your last chance to head out in search of Snapper. Inshore, the most common catches are Redfish, Trout, and Mangrove Snapper, so there's plenty on offer.

  • November

Not only is it too choppy to head offshore, but the pelagics start leaving. It's a good thing that Flounder, Trout, Redfish, and Sheepshead are all on offer in the bays, so settle in for a peaceful day of fishing.

  • December

Make the most of the holidat season by getting out on the water. Fishing is the best way to keep warm as the chilly winds beat down on you, with plenty of great rewards for a hearty dinner.
