If you’re visiting Venice, Louisiana, going fishing should be at the top of your list. Delicious inshore species and coveted pelagics make this one of the most productive fisheries in the US. Step aboard one of the many Venice, LA, fishing charters on offer and try your luck in this tiny Louisiana town!
Offshore anglers who come to Venice usually have one thing in mind – massive Tuna. It boasts a year-round population of Yellowfin Tuna, which is seasonally joined by Blackfin Tuna, Mahi Mahi, Sailfish, Wahoo, and White and Blue Marlin. These fish thrive here in large part due to to the offshore oil rigs and deep canyons.
Fast-paced action is a trait of inshore fishing in Venice, too. You can battle big Bull Redfish, Speckled Trout, Flounder, Tripletail, and Black Drum. Head to the inshore rigs and more tasty table fare awaits. Gag and Scamp Grouper, as well as Red Snapper, can be caught here.
If you came to catch Tuna, extended full day or overnight trips are the ones for you. You’ll need to travel between 30–100 miles to get to productive grounds, after all! For you inshore anglers, a half day trip lets you go home with a few fish, while a full day trip can see you really stock the freezer.
Venice is a tiny community, so finding a fishing charter shouldn’t be too difficult. You’ll find boat ramps dotted all along the Mississippi, whereas Venice Marina, located on the southernmost edges of town, is your best bet for sourcing a sportfishing vessel.
Rules & Regulations
All anglers over the age of 16 are responsible for purchasing a fishing license. If you’re fishing south of the “‘saltwater line,” you’ll need a Saltwater Fishing License, alongside a Louisiana Fishing License. If you plan on targeting certain pelagic species, make sure your captain covers Offshore Landing Permits for everyone on board, otherwise you’ll need to get your own.
