Frequently Asked Questions about Fishing Charters in Emerald Isle

According to customer reviews, First Due Charters – Family Day, Reel Pirates Fishing Charters And Adventures, and At Ease Charters Inc. are some of the most popular fishing charters in Emerald Isle, North Carolina. Full list of top fishing charters in Emerald Isle.

The average price for a private 4 hour Emerald Isle fishing trip is $510, while an 8 hour private trip will cost you $703 based on prices on FishingBooker.com.

First Due Charters – Family Day, Reel Pirates Fishing Charters And Adventures, and At Ease Charters Inc. all received great reviews from families who booked fishing trips in Emerald Isle.

The most popular fish species you can target are King Mackerel (Kingfish), Redfish, and Spanish Mackerel. Top fishing techniques include Light Tackle, Bottom Fishing, and Trolling. Inshore fishing, nearshore fishing, and wreck fishing are commonly offered by local guides.

Emerald Isle is a textbook example of a thriving tourist hotspot. It’s situated on the northern end of the Golden Coast and its residential population has never exceeded more than 4,000 people. However, come summer and peak tourism season, there’s likely to be more than ten times that number staying there. This interest also extends to Emerald Isle fishing charters since the location is very well-suited for offshore fishing trips to the Gulf Stream.

Like most places along the Crystal Coast, Emerald Isle is a year-round fishing destination. Inshore fishing here provides some of America's most iconic fish, like the feisty Redfish or delicious Flounder. This popular duo is joined by species like Spanish Mackerel and Sheepshead to ensure you have a memorable experience.

For those more interested in deep sea fishing from Emerald Isle, you’re sure to have fun on longer trips to the Gulf Stream. Trolling is likely to be your go-to for Mahi Mahi, Kingfish, Blue and White Marlin, Tuna, and other big game fish. Make sure to check what the best time is to go fishing for your dream fish. You can’t expect to go after both Bluefin Tuna and Sailfish at the same time, so plan accordingly.

The variety of fishing here makes it easy to plan a trip that's suited to your needs. Shorter 3–4 hour trips give you plenty of time to enjoy the inshore and backcountry waters. On the other hand, offshore excursions to the Gulf Stream will require you to set aside a full day to go after the biggest and baddest fish around.

Rules and Regulations

Going out with a professional charter service is generally the most hassle-free way to go fishing, and it means you will not need to buy any sort of fishing license. In all other cases, you’ll need to acquire a valid North Carolina Fishing license, including when fishing from a pier or beach. Finally, make sure to keep your eye out for the latest regulations when it comes to species that have opened and closed seasons.

Based on 27695 reviews by FishingBooker anglers

January

Fish will start moving near the beachfront thanks to the cooling waters, so anglers on the surf should get their Minnows and Shrimp bait ready.

February

You should consider longer offshore trips only if you’re after Bluefin Tuna, in all other cases nearshore wrecks are a much better option for getting your hands full at this time of year.

March

You don’t need to stay out long before reaching your limit for the day, especially if you’re willing to go out a bit further to spots like AR-285.

April

Bogue Sound should have enough Redfish and Trout to tide you over, but this is when offshore fishing starts getting good, with Wahoo, Yellowfins, and Blackfins coming over.

May

Mahi Mahi should be making their way down to the artificial reefs. Use smaller deep diving lures when trolling to have the best chance of success.

June

Nearshore fishing this time of year can be a source of great fun. Family trips for Spanish Mackerel are very popular with the local fishing charters.

July

The Trout bite should be great in most parts of Bogue Sound. For optimal results, get started early in the morning and make good use of topwater plugs.

August

Redfish and Flounder will be the main targets of anyone fishing in the marshland, while the Billfish bite should be amazing in the Gulf Stream.

September

Schools of Spanish Mackerel can be found right off the beach, which means The Point is ripe for the taking. The bigger specimens will be further off near the reefs.

October

Kingfish will be feeding near the Bogue Inlet around this time, presenting you with a chance to go after them without trekking too far for too long.

November

The False Albacore bite is very strong nearshore, with metal jigs being used by most anglers around. The Kings are still around for latecomers.

December

While the Wahoo bite might taper off, this is a booming time to be going after Bluefin Tuna and Kingfish in particular. Sailfishing will be a hit-or-miss affair most of the time.

Don’t set high expectations and just enjoy the time out with friends and family. Might be great fishing but will most likely be a great time either way.

I wanted to take some out of town friends fishing. It was their daughters first time fishing or even on a small boat. We had a wonderful day enjoying the beautiful sound, catching small fish and catching up. Captain Mike is so welcoming and informative about the area and fish we caught. He made sure little Elizabeth was comfortable and shaded. I will definitely do this again!

We had a great time today on our half day inland fishing trip. Highlight of the day was a 31 1/2 “ red drum. Unfortunately, it was too big to keep. The Captain couldn’t have been more helpful! This was our second trip with him and we’ll be back again next year for sure!! Thanks Heath!!

Was able to take my 7 year old son out and have to say he had a amazing time thanks to Captian Will. He was able to reel in a Spanish mackerel and a nice size Flounder. It was a slow day of fishing even tho we say some drum working the area. We will definitely be back again and recommend for any one looking for a great guide who is great with the kids. My son will be talking about the trip for a long time.

Great family trip for all ages. The captain has a great personality and very helpful. We enjoyed the entire trip. We were able to bring home a good mess of clam and blue crabs. We were able to find about 30 shark teeth and some beautiful sea shells for us to make some nice decorations with. He taught us find and dig for clams. How to bait, pull and set crab pots. It was a very enjoyable experience. We definitely recommend this trip.

My son and I had a wonderful time on our trip with Heath for a 1/2 day near shore boat trip. Unfortunately, no keepers on this particular day however we caught several sharks. This was a total thrill for my son. He's a shark fanatic so it was a great day. We also saw a rather large spotted ray jump out of the water as well as dolphins too. Heath was great, patient and laid back. Will definitely use again if we're back at EI doing a fishing trip. Thanks again, Julie Shupp

We didn’t catch anything worth keeping tooling around a few places in the sound, but such is fishing. Captain Tim is great and his boat is clean, and cooks in the sound. Book this guy, he knows what’s up (just beware of the Dad-jokes…). We’re definitely booking again when we’re back on EI.
