Hatteras fishing charters are famous for their skilled crews and huge fish. Inshore charters explore the sounds in search of Red Drum, Speckled Trout, Flounder, and more. Even half days can produce a ton of fish, making this a great option for families and beginners. Sight casters and fly fishers can stay out longer to chase monster Drum in spring and Fall.
 
Heading into the ocean, nearshore charters are fun for any group. Kids and beginners will have a blast reeling in smaller fish like Sheepshead and Seabass. Serious anglers can test their skills against local specialities like “Smoker Kings” in fall or Cobia in spring.
 
Deep sea trips are where the real action is. Speed 20+ miles out to the Gulf Stream to spend the whole day battling Blue and White Marlin, Bluefin, Bigeye, and Yellowfin Tuna, Sailfish, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, and more. This is real bucket list fishing, designed for experienced anglers.
 
Most local charters leave from Hatteras Harbor and other nearby marinas. If you’re visiting in June, you can test your skills in the Hatteras Marlin Club Release Tournament, which has been running for over 60 years. Whenever you visit, you’ll find plenty of fish and some unforgettable memories waiting for you on the water!

Rules & Regulations

Fishing licenses are included on charters in North Carolina. Species like Flounder, Cobia, and Seabass have seasonal closures that may change annually, so be sure to ask your captain about important limits and closed seasons.

January

The year kicks off in a frenzy of screaming drag, with monster Bluefin Tuna putting even the world's best anglers to the limit. This is the toughest, most high-reward fishing experience in the world. Interested?

February

The Outer Banks Tuna season is still going strong offshore. If you fancy something calmer, take to the inshore waters for a year-round population of many great table and game fish.

March

Yellowfin roll into town as the Bluefin begin to move on. They may not taste quite as good but they still put up some serious fight and their population is a lot more stable, making them a sustainable alternative.

April

The first few Mahi Mahi appear in April, joined by Wahoo and a ton of huge Yellowfin. Inshore, you have Red and Black Drum, Trout, Bluefish, and Spanish Mackerel. Take your pick, the fish are everywhere!

May

Yellowfin Tuna hit their peak in May, and are slowly joined by a host of different billfish towards the end of the month. This is a great chance to fish the Outer Banks before the summer crowds roll in.

June

The Blue Marlin Capital of the World begins to earn its name in June, with huge Blues turning up offshore, joined by Sailfish, White Marlin, and a host of other big game pelagic species.

July
July is peak tournament season, with the Hatteras Grand Slam Billfish Tournament and the Hatteras Marlin Club Blue Marlin Release Tournament June drawing in the biggest names in the industry.
August

The tournament crowds may move on in August, but the fish certainly don't! Big Marlin, Sailfish, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, and Tuna all swarm the deep, just waiting to be caught.

September

Hatteras offshore fishing in September is still great for Billfish, especially White Marlin, who stick around well into the start of fall. You will also find plenty of Blackfin Tuna and a year-round inshore fishery.

October

Huge "Smoker Kings" draw the most attention in October and November. If you fancy casting your bait into a sea of ravenous King Mackerel, this is the time to visit.

November

The King Mackerel are still biting anything you throw their way, and you will have no trouble pulling in your limit. The first big Bluefin are starting to show up offshore, spiking adrenaline all over town.

December

Is an 800-pound Bluefin Tuna all you want for Christmas? We can't blame you! Climb aboard and head out to the deepest edge of the continental shelf for your chance of fighting one of these colossal brutes.

We couldnโ€™t have imagined we would have such a blast. Four adults and two children under 6. Everyone caught fish. Captain Stephen put us on a bunch of king mackerel and mate Bob worked his butt off to keep lines in the water so we could keep reeling em in. Would definitely book with the Gambler again during mahi season in the summer.

My son and I had an incredible experience with Got โ€˜Em Charters. Capt. Jerry was a joy to fish with. Despite a very windy and rainy morning, he quickly got us on a school of sheephead and then a school of red drum! We caught our drum limit! His knowledge of the waters, fish habits, and warm personality were second to none. Couldnโ€™t recommend Capt Jerry and Got โ€˜Em Charters more highly. Book โ€˜Em!

Great, comfortable boat with a crew that really strive to put you on the fish and to have a great day. Zach is great guy and worked with us around bad weather. When we did get out we immediately caught fish! When we limited out, Zach took us to a wreck that he recently found and we got our limit of sheephead there! Weโ€™re three old guys that have been fishing all of our lives but we were like 12 year old kids having a blast yanking in fish after fish. I would definitely recommend Zachโ€™s charter service!

My husband and I had such a great time on this charter trip. The waves were a little rough that day but we had a great time stopping in multiple places to fish and caught a large drum early in the trip. We will do this again!

Although the weather didn't allow us to catch very many fish the time on the water with my son was priceless. And Jerry was very informative about the area and the fish that we did catch. He was really good with my boy explaining everything he could about his first reddish. Thanks agian Jerry for your time and experience will have to try it agian next year.

The odds were against us with the recent storm and cloudy water. Plus, we crammed way to much beach into the day before but it turned into a nice day. We caught several fish including two ribbon fish. They were quite tasty! Captain Willie was great!
