The backwater creeks and inlets of North Myrtle Beach host a variety of inshore fish. Here you can target Black and Red Drum, Spotted Seatrout, and Flounder. Even in winter, you can have great success casting in these shallows.
 
Out in the ocean, you can find yourself fishing for Bluefish, Spanish Mackerel, Barracuda, and Sharks. Such nearshore trips normally stay within 10 miles of shore, and last up to six hours.
 
If you’re looking for a bigger challenge, North Myrtle Beach boasts a range of offshore fishing charters. These outings will take you 30– 50 miles out, to the bountiful waters of the Gulf Stream. These trips last  anywhere from 8–12 hours at sea, but the effort can pay off big time. You’ll have everything from Snappers and Jacks, to Cobia and Mahi, to Kingfish, Sailfish, and Wahoo, right at the tip of your rod.
 
North Myrtle Beach is home to some of the best inshore fishing charters on the Grand Strand. However, if you happen to strike out on available captains, check out the nearby town of Little River.

Rules & Regulations

Anglers age 16 and older must purchase a recreational fishing license, unless they’re fishing on a licensed public pier or on a licensed charter vessel. For most species, the fishing season is open year-round. However, the Red Drum season is only open from December through February.

Your chances of catching a Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, Kingfish, or Tuna will keep getting better from here. You can also enjoy great inshore for a variety of species such as Flounder, Black Drum, and Sharks. 

May

May is a great time to be on the water in North Myrtle Beach! Whether you fish inshore for Redfish and Speckled Trout or venture out to the Blue Water, you are likely to bring home a great catch.

June

The fishing keeps on getting better! You might land anything from Spanish Mackerel to Tuna, depending on where you cast lines. Inshore Shark fishing is at its height.

Head offshore and enjoy great fishing for Sailfish, Marlin, Wahoo, and Tuna. Or make the most of your time inshore, targeting Redfish and all the usual suspects.

August

The fishing is still great no matter where you go, from the backwaters to the Blue Water and everywhere in between. Just be sure to keep an eye out for hurricane season.

Offshore fishing continues to thrive in autumn, with Tuna, Wahoo, and many others still biting vigorously. Inshore fishing is spectacular, as large Redfish start to move into the backwaters.

Inshore fishing at this time of year will bring you Redfish, Stripers, Speckled Trout, and much more. You can continue reaping the rewards of offshore fishing, as well.

As the peak season for offshore fishing comes to a close toward the end of the month, you can set your sights on some great light tackle action inshore.

If this is your first time fishing, make sure and wear shoes that you do not care to get wet. Make sure to take sunscreen. We took a small cooler with some drinks and snacks. I always get carsick and I wound up taking a Dramamine before the trip, I did not get sick at all. And it was a little bumpy at times. I would suggest just to have some on hand.

This was our first time fishing in the ocean. It was a surprise fishing trip for my husband and my 10 year old son. We caught 40ish fish. Captain Cody is very knowledgeable and very informative. We learned a lot from him. The main thing wasโ€ฆ freshwater fishing is completely different than saltwater fishing. We plan on doing this again next year. I highly recommend captain Cody.

Captain Cody is as real as they come and made the trip memorable for our family. Very accommodating, especially to those who โ€œnever get sea sickโ€ but in fact do. He still put us on fish and the boys caught quite a bit. Husband and I were extra thankful for him teaching our boys the ways of salt water fishing. Would highly recommend to anyone, if youโ€™re debating, TAKE THE TRIP!
