Head out on a Port Isabel fishing adventure and see what this stunning historic town has to offer. Previously drenched in legends of pirates and hidden treasures, today it’s a quaint fishing village with access to some of the richest waters in Texas. The shallow Laguna Madre offers incredible inshore fishing opportunities, while the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico will give you a real adrenaline boost!

Inshore, you’ll find the crystal clear waters of Laguna Madre both a joy to look at and full of fish you can go after. Redfish, Flounder, Trout, Tarpon, Snook, Sheepshead, and many more await your bait. A half day trip is a great way to explore these waters and get familiar with the fishery, as well as to spend some quality time with your family in nature.

If you’re a more adventurous angler, and you’re looking to hook some deep sea monsters, the Gulf is a short boat ride away! The deep offshore waters hide creatures like Snapper, Grouper, Marlin, Mahi Mahi, and Tuna. You can explore them on a full day trip, or even an extended full day trip if you want to have some rod-bending action.

Port Isabel is a fishing town first and foremost, so it’s no wonder that you can find charters everywhere you go. Just head on down to the docks and take your pick of the bunch! South Padre Island is right across from the Queen Isabella Causeway, providing you with even more options.

Rules & Regulations

When fishing in Port Isabel, you’ll be following Texas state law. This means that everyone age 17 and over needs to have a fishing license, regardless of whether or not you’re fishing on your own or with a fishing charter.

January
Focus on Redfish in January and you won't regret it for a second – the waters are teeming with them. Trout are more picky than usual, try tempting them with spoons and jigs.
February
Redfish and Trout fishing is still good, don't miss the chance to catch as many as you can. The weather is getting hotter, and so is the fishing.
March
Flounder and Trout are on the rise, while fishing for Redfish can be less productive than previous months. Inshore fishing is the name of the game in March.
April
You'll be searching for Speckled Trout near shore and Redfish on the flats. Black Drum fishing is excellent. April brings more action offshore – Blue Marlin is possible with some luck.
May
May is all about inshore action – the shallow waters of the bay are filled with Speckled Trout and Redfish. Tarpon are also making their first appearance – catch them if you can.
June
Red Snapper season opens – head out to federal waters and bag your personal best. Bottom fishing and battling Wahoo, Yellowfin Tuna, and Mahi Mahi is a must.
July

Red Snapper is still going strong, along with Mahi Mahi, Amberjack, Tuna, and Wahoo offshore. Inshore fishing is all about Tarpon, and catching them on the fly will be unforgettable.

August
The beginning of August is reserved for the Texas International Fishing Tournament – test your angling skills against others. Reds are waiting for you inshore, while Tuna, Mahi, Wahoo, and Amberjack prowl the offshore fishing grounds.
September
September is all about Flounder fishing on the flats. But that doesn't mean that Reds, Specks, Snook, and Tarpon are slowing down. Snapper fishing is still hot, hot, hot.
October
October can be very productive and diverse when it comes to the species you can catch. The sky's the limit with Tuna offshore and Redfish, Speckled Trout, and Snook inshore.
November
The weather is getting colder, but fishing is still hot. November is all about fishing inshore for Reds or offshore for Yellowfin Tuna – just choose your game, and anything's possible.
December
Colder weather will usually lead anglers to stay inshore, but that doesn't mean less action. Trout, Redfish, and Black Drum can be amazing this time of the year.

Book with George Strader , "George's Fishing Charter Service"! This guy will make your day! He had a sonogram instrument on his boat to find the fish. The day had a North Wind, which was not ideal for fishing--it kept the schools on the move and caused big swells in the gulf. The Bay, however, was excellent, much calmer & easier to find large schools of fish. The water was pretty cool but warm enough for a refreshing swim.

Keep a close eye on the weather and find a Capt who is easy to contact. Also find an experienced captain who has good ratings. That's your best chance at a successful day.

Bring rain gear. Wear it. Enjoy the hungry speckled trout and when the tide is moving in, the tailing redfish.

Make sure the Captain has shrimp and if its windy, the fishing is tough, but thats why its called fishing and not called catching. Still had plenty of bit3s and action, even though the wind made things tough.

I couldn't be happier with Capt. Thomas. He called me the afternoon I booked the trip, and kept in touch up to the day of the trip. We got socked in by fog, and got away late, but the Capt said I'd get my full fishing experience. He immediately took us where the fish were biting, and knew when and where to move to keep us on the fish. I had a great time, and can not wait to fish with Capt. Thomas again.

Very windy and cold. Captain George offered a chance to cancel. We decided to go fishing and are very happy for our decision. Weather cleared and Capt George knew where the big fish were. We caught large red fish and had lots of excitement. One of the best fishing charters I have been on.

George was very professional and knowledgeable. There were five of us, including my two young grandsons. After a little slow start, George kept us moving until we found a great spot. Everyone had non stop action and we took home almost 40 fish, including some large Black Drum. Great day, well worth the cost. We highly recommend George.

Caught the target species that I was shooting for. Captain Thomas was very productive in finding the right fish that was on my list except for snook which are very hard to find unless you are in mangrove areas which was several miles away. I would recommend this trip to anyone looking to catch fish. Catch and release or just to put some fish in your freezer.

This was an AWESOME trip, these guys put us on Red Snapper right away, then followed up with King Mackerel and we caught our limit on both. During the trip out we saw plenty of Dolphins, Jelly fish, various birds, and even a Puffer Fish. Were already planning a return trip next year for the 12 hour trip with all of my sons. Great job guys, see you next year.

Had a nice Day on the Bay with Captain Dewitt. He is very nice and chatty and knows the bay and the area well. He is a bit more "mature" than most other captains, so he has a lot of stories to share. We caught about 15 fish over 5 hours, mostly trout and skipjack. Saw an interesting hammerhead swim by.
