Top Fishing Charters in Red River

The Red River is one of the only saltwater rivers in the country, and one of the most prolific in the southern US. It straddles the border of Oklahoma and Texas, and runs through New Mexico, Arkansas, and Louisiana. Take your pick of Red River fishing guides and hop aboard for an adventure!

The Red River spans 1,360 miles and contains endless opportunities to catch monster Catfish, Stripers, Carp, and Alligator Gar. Other top catches include Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, Crappie, and White Bass.

Some of the most popular techniques in the area include fly fishing, bottom fishing, and trolling. Noodling, a Red River catfishing technique which requires you to use your bare hands, is particularly popular in Texas and Oklahoma.

Whether you’re looking for a full-day or a half-day trip, you should have no problem finding one that’s right for you. Shorter days typically last 4–5 hours while longer trips are 6–8 hours long. Shorter trips are great if you’ve got kids while longer trips will allow you to cover more areas and catch more game fish. If you’re thinking of trying noodling for Catfish, this is a great trip option for the whole family!

No matter which state you plan to visit, fishing on the Red River is full of surprises. Towns along the rivers such as Denison and Pottsboro in Texas, and Kingston and Cartwright in Oklahoma, offer top-notch guides that will cater each trip based on your preferences. They usually provide everything you need, including rods, reels, and bait. So get ready to get out there and experience Red River fishing like a true pro!

Rules & Regulations

Keep in mind, you’ll have to purchase a freshwater fishing license. Check the local rules and regulations in your state as some protected waters may require you to purchase an additional license. If you have any questions, be sure to ask your guide as certain species may be subject to specific limits and seasonality.

Welcome the New Year with a fun family fishing trip! The Red River provides great year-round opportunities for catching Stripers, Catfish, and Crappie.

February is a great time to go catfishing. Pick a guide that will take you Catfish noodling or challenge this monster on light tackle for a “reel” challenge!

Fishing gets kicked into high gear, with likely catches of Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, as well as Crappie and Catfish. Other likely catches include Striped and White Bass.

Spawning season for many species begins, this means your chance of catching a trophy fish is pretty good. Plan a trip to Denison, TX and check out the annual Lake Texoma Sailing Regatta and Flotilla Show!

May is a great time to target monster Stripers. Please keep in mind that Alligator Gar fishing is strictly prohibited during the month of May.

Striped Bass fishing remains hot throughout the summer. You can also catch other Bass species, including White, Largemouth, and Smallmouth Bass.

Striped Bass can be found in great numbers, especially around Denison Dam. Choose a guide that will take you on a Striper run and get ready for some thrilling action on light tackle!

Crappie fishing starts to pick up in August. Grab your fish box and load up on these delicious fish and enjoy a savory meal with the family!

September is prime time for Gar fishing, especially around Cambridge and Preston, where the river feeds into Lake Texoma. Sight fishing for Crappie in the shallows is also great this time of year.

As the waters start to cool, Catfishing starts to heat up again. Crappie and Bass fishing are also hot, providing a good opportunity for you to catch multiple species in one day.

Alligator Gar and Catfish reign supreme during November. This is the time to head out and catch yourself a prehistoric beast!

Stripers continue to show up in numbers, allowing you to catch them off the red banks of the river. December is also a good time to go after Alligator Gar and Catfish.
