January

This is a great time to go after Sheepshead, but Speckled Trout and Redfish are still biting. As temperatures get low, other species tend to quiet down.

February

If you’re looking for a winter fishing adventure in San Antonio Bay, prepare for a fight. Sheepshead are biting, along with Redfish and Speckled Trout.

March

With spring slowly coming to the bay, March is a great time to head out in search of big Redfish and Speckled Trout. The Flounder bite is good too.

April

In April, the best species to go after are Black Drum. Spanish Mackerel, Redfish, and Flounder are also biting hot.

May

This is when you’ll get the chance to go after prized Tarpon. Spanish Mackerel is still biting as well, along with Redfish and Trout.

June

With summer on the doorstep, you’ll find the fishing tends to heat up! Go after the Texas Trio – catch the biggest Redfish, Flounder, and Trout.

July

The fishing season is in full swing, and San Antonio Bay is brimming with fish. Flounder, Redfish, Trout, and Black Drum are all in the cards.

August

August is the warmest month in the bay, and it’s an excellent time to go after species like Tarpon, Redfish, and Speckled Trout.

September

With the coming of fall, you’ll have a great time on the water. You’ll be able to reel in fish like Redfish and Tarpon, but also Speckled Trout and Flounder.

October

If Flounder is what you’re after, there’s no better time to do it than October! Go Flounder gigging and experience a true Texan adventure.

November

This is when the temperatures start to drop, but the fishing is still hot. Go after prized Flounder, Trout, and Redfish, and get that Texas Trio!

December

The holiday season is upon us! Use this time to go on a Christmas fishing adventure in San Antonio Bay. The water is perfect to target some Sheepshead.

I am not knowledgeable enough to offer any meaningful advice. But I suppose everybody knows that it is just too hot to fish during the middle of the day in August. A morning or late afternoon trip would be more pleasant.

There is a LOT of quality water in the area. I particularly like wade-fishing the flats, and there are literally thousands of acres available. We had perfect weather. Not crazy hot, beautiful water temperature, and lots of fishing opportunity. Highly recommended.

I would recommend Aransas Pass because it is away from the tourist crowd of Port Aransas. We stayed in PA but vying for a fishing trip there was crazy. Easy access to the harbor in Aransas Pass.

It's the first time I have fished Matagorda in June, so I have no basis for comparison. This was a fun outing, even though the bite was tough. FWIW, I would do it again tomorrow with this guide. Very fun time.

Don't be afraid to bring your own rods and tackle. Try both artificials and live bait. Ask lots of questions, what are the best redfish spots, what are the best lures to use for each type of fish. What is your favorite time to fish, etc.

Targeting Vermillion Snapper was great this time of year. 4-5 foot swells can be tough to deal with for not regularly seafaring patrons but managing expectations can still bring a Great experience!

captain jim was a rare but amazing find. he was beyond patient working with one of my inexperienced fishers. he knew every good spot and we had a handful of fun catches. he’s beyond dedicated to the job and the catch and took us at least 7 spots or maybe more? he was also entrenched and made many calls to decide the best fishing path rather than sticking to a specific “route”. literally cannot recommend the time spent learning with him highly enough

I’m an optimist and it went better than planned. We got our limit with 20 mins to spare and he taught my boys many good lessons. For a 6 and 8 year old that love a digital screen as much as the next kiddo it was the perfect dose of life! As far as i’m concerned, there isn’t a more suitable captain in the Port A/Rockport area to take care of a couple of youngsters. Thanks Captain Kenny! We will be booking you every trip down and looking forward to seeing you next fall.
