The San Joaquin River is located just about an hour’s drive from San Francisco, making it perfect for a day trip. Most San Joaquin fishing guides offer both half-day and full-day trips. Shorter trips are perfect if you’ve got kids or are on a tight schedule. However, if you’ve got time for a full day, you should definitely take advantage of a longer trip as you’ll be able to target more species and cover more fishing grounds.
Along the river, you’ll find fishing towns with some amazing spots that will have your rod bending in no time. From Pittsburg to Bethel Island, and even further inland towards Stockton, you’ll come across plenty of guides that will take you to productive areas where the fish are sure to bite.
Rules & Regulations
Anyone 16 or older must purchase a CA fishing license before heading out. Certain protected areas may be closed throughout parts of the year and some species are subject to seasonality. If you aren’t sure about the laws and regulations in your area, you can always ask a local guide or license agent.
