Fishing in Sebastian Inlet

With the Indian and St. Sebastian Rivers to the west and the endless blue of the Atlantic to the east, stepping aboard a Sebastian Inlet fishing charter puts you in prime position for some incredible angling action. Whether you’re after a true Floridian inshore adventure, some delicious dinner options, or a rod-bending big game battle, simply pick a direction, hop aboard your chosen charter, and off you go!

Head west of the inlet, and you’ll be greeted by a world of inshore fishing opportunities. Sebastian Inlet State Park provides direct access to the prolific Indian River, including its meeting point with the St. Sebastian River. Redfish, Snook, Tarpon, Pompano, and Black Drum are regular catches here. A half day trip is the perfect introduction to Floridian-style inshore angling. More experienced? A full day trip gives you more time to test your skills. For an unforgettable Snook battle, a nighttime trip is a must!

East of the inlet, you’ll find the fish-filled nearshore and offshore waters of the Atlantic Ocean. If tasty table fare is at the top of your list, a nearshore adventure will see you casting your line over reefs and wrecks for Grouper, Snapper, and Cobia. Opting for a full day trip will allow you to explore a variety of structure and increase your chances of a monster catch.

Head even further east, and you’ll reach the stomping grounds of world-famous big game species such as Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, and Sailfish, only 15 miles from shore. Although it doesn’t take long to reach plentiful waters, many captains offer full or extended day trips that’ll allow you to experience this fishery at its finest.

Rules & Regulations

Cast off alongside an experienced charter captain, and you won’t have to worry about a thing. Your license will be covered, and you’ll be informed of any bag and size regulations regarding specific species.

Sebastian Inlet Fishing Seasons

January

Bluefish start to peak while the Pompano and Black Drum are numerous. Shrimping is really strong during this time, too.

February

As the weather slowly starts to warm up, crabbing gets better, with Blue and Stone Crabs being especially good targets. Bluefish fishing is still going strong, as well as Pompano.

March

Bluefish fishing winds down this month, though they’ll still be available. This is the last chance to go on a shrimping family day out, as it all slows down next month.

April

The weather and waters both start to heat up in April. Southern Flounder like warmer waters, so put them on your "to-catch" list. Pompano and Snook are also available.

May

Snook and Pompano can be caught in May. Smaller Tarpon start frequenting the St. Sebastian River during spring and will continue into the summer.

June

Snook take a bigger bite out of the local area as the weather brightens. Redfish and Mangrove Snappers are plentiful during this time of year, too.

July

Head to Sebastian Inlet in July for an inshore fishing bonanza! Flounder, Redfish, Snook, and Black Drum are all plentiful. Mackerel and Snappers appear in great numbers, too.

August

Mangrove Snapper are in high season during this period, with Blue Runners, Lookdowns, and Spanish Mackerel winding down.

September

Snook and Redfish are teeming in the waters of the lagoon. Larger Tarpon move into the river and backcountry waters.

October

Redfish and Snook are still the prime targets for this season. Gulf Flounder can also be found during late fall. Hook the last Tarpon species before they start to migrate away.

November

Gulf Flounder and Spotted Seatrout start their high season during this month. Redfish and Snook can still be caught, albeit in smaller numbers.

December

Sheepshead peaks during the winter months. Southern Flounder and Spotted Seatrout are also present in larger numbers. Black Mullet can be targeted as well.
