In the upper river you’ll be catching and releasing some monster creatures that have been allowed to grow to incredible sizes. Hit the lower part, out of Ellijay, and you’ll fish deep waters accessible only by boat.

Rules & Regulations

All anglers over the age of 16 on the Toccoa River must be in possession of a valid Georgian fishing license. If you’re looking to go after the state’s famous Trout population, then you’ll need an additional Trout permit. Buy them both at the same time and don’t forget to bring them along.

Your professional guide will make sure that you keep up with the latest fishing regulations, so get in touch before you come aboard to find out whether you’ll need to release your fish or not.

January
There’s no need to worry about the winter blues in northern Georgia, with the mild weather offering plenty of opportunities for you to get out on the water. Hit up the lakes for the best results and get your fish on.
February
The Trout are yet to show up in February, so the river is sparse of anglers. Your best bet of some fishing action is still in the lakes, so hop on a charter or fish from shore to attract the bite of Bass and more.
March
As spring kicks in, the Trout population starts showing up. Get ready for a rush at the end of the month, as you spend plenty of hours going after Brook, Rainbow, and even Brook Trout in the upper and lower river.
April
There’s a reason that Blue Ridge’s annual Troutfest takes place in April. Join the fishing action to land plenty of these beauties, and stock up on gear for the new season, as you get swept up in the hype.
May
Spring is one of the best times to get out on the water in northern Georgia with Trout in abundance and Walleye providing plenty of action in the lakes. Target ‘em all and head home with some tasty treats.
June
Blue Ridge comes alive as the weather starts heating up. Join the revelers at the town’s annual Wine and Jazz Festival after a thrilling day exploring the productive waters of the Toccoa River and its tributaries.
July
The height of summer attracts anglers from all over to the rich waters of northern Georgia, and for good reason too. Make the most of your vacation and be at one with nature in the stunning forests along the river.
August
Make the most of summer break and bring the kids to the river in search of a healthy outdoor hobby. Go after Trout in the river, or the usual suspects in the lakes, and get your fill of exciting fishing.
September
There’s no sign of the fishing slowing down come September. In fact, the Trout fishing has never been better. Go after the holy grail of all three native Trout species and head home with a record to your name.
October
It’s the time of year that the whole of Ellijay has been waiting for. Georgia’s annual Apple Festival grips the town, so why not combine it with a fishing trip to the lower Toccoa and land plenty of fish, too?
November
As the Trout move away for the winter, you’ll have to rush to catch their bite. Don’t worry, though, as there are plenty of Walleye in Lake Blue Ridge to keep you on your toes, so get out on it.
December
All attention shifts to the lakes, as the colder weather sees the fish hide away from the river. Get your fish on as you try a range of techniques, and target Bass, Perch, Walleye, and more for a festive feast.

Great. This year (2022) was a little on the hot (above average) side and there is always the chance of thunderstorms when that hot!

Worth every penny to have an experienced guide. The float trip was so much nicer than just a wade trip.

I would start with a guided outing to learn where the fish are and what the fish a biting. When you see it with your own eyes, it is different than reading about it on the internet.

Captain Slay was very friendly & professional. He immediately made us feel comfortable aboard his very nice boat. He is very knowledgeable and has everything you need to have a great day out on the water. Len was determined to get us on fish as he adjusted his techniques to determine where & how the fish would take our baits. We caught plenty spotted bass and 3 stripers, two over 20lbs! - Highly recommended

Being a novice fly fisherman did not deter Captain Joe from teaching me the โ€œarts of fly fishing โ€œ. Caught my limit of trout when I finally got the hang of it. Wish I had an ounce of his patience!

Had a fun day of fishing with Capt. Len. Cold morning to start but he had a plan for that. Birthday trip for my 86 year old uncle and Len was very accomodating in insuring he had a great trip. Fishing was slow at times but not from a lack of effort on Len's part. Would definitely recommend his services and look forward to fishing with him again.

Amazing time with my 3 young boys!!! Awesome weather, beautiful scenery, and top notch captain! Len was fantastic and worked hard the entire time to ensure a memorable trip. He did his best to put us on the big fish. Even though they weren't biting as much as we'd like them to, it wasn't for lack of effort on Len's part. We all caught fish, and a few BIG ones. Overall great experience. Would highly recommend.

Booked a float trip with my son before leaving for college. Capt. Joe is knowledgeable and helpful. He instructed my son on fly fishing during the morning float down the Toccoa river. Everything was 5 star and we'd recommend, and book again with him. The only thing that didn't go perfect was the weather, which neither the guide nor us could control. Even so, had a fantastic time catching fish!

We started the day at 7::00 The captain was very courteous and was very concerned for our comfort and safety. Very beautiful area to explore. It was our first time fly fishing. The captain was very patient dealing with the nuances of line tangles, hook pokes etc. The fishing was off a little that day but we really enjoyed the experience. Thank you Capt. Todd

What a great day! Len was on time and ready early, we were out in the lake by 6:30 and fishing fast! Caught catfish, bass and crappie. Len was very nice and knew the lake, so we took a lovely ride to get to a new fishing spot. His equipment was all in working order and good quality. He was knowledgeable and wanted us to have a great experience and very determined for us to catch fish!
