Boasting access to the Gulf of Mexico, as well as inshore marshes, lakes, and rivers, the Bayou State has something for everyone. Whether you hop aboard a Louisiana fishing charter and head into deep offshore waters or opt to weave through the canals, you’ll quickly discover why it’s known as the “Sportsman's Paradise.”

Let’s kick things off out in the deep. Louisiana is home to some of the finest Yellowfin Tuna fishing in the US. In your pursuit of these delicious fish, you could also encounter Blackfin Tuna, Mahi Mahi, Blue and White Marlin, Wahoo, and Swordfish. Do a little bottom fishing and there’s Red Snapper and a variety of Grouper for the taking, too.

The action inshore is just as exciting. Redfish, Speckled Trout, and Flounder make excellent year-round targets for both beginners and pros. More experienced anglers can also go after Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass in the state’s many lakes. Black Drum, Sheepshead, Catfish, and Perch are just a few others you can add to your list.

Louisiana is covered in productive waterways but the type of experience you’re looking for will dictate which areas you want to explore. If you have time for a full day offshore adventure, don’t skip a trip out of Venice or Grand Isle. For excellent inshore action, New Orleans, Lake Pontrachain, and the Lake Charles areas are a great starting point. A half day trip will do the trick here but, if you have the time, treat yourself to a full day.

It’s very hard to go wrong when fishing Louisiana at the start of the year. The inshore bite is great near New Orleans, while the offshore Tuna is absolutely on fire.

March

Freshwater anglers will be flocking to New Orleans City Park for the Big Bass Fishing Rodeo. With a tradition of more than 70 years, it’s a big part of the local angling culture.

April

Any deep sea fishing fan will welcome the opportunity to go up against Swordfish in the Gulf. Inshore, this is usually when Speckled Trout start heading out of the marshes.

May

As summer finally sets in, so does prime season for a variety of offshore fishing. Anything from Mahi Mahi to Marlin and Sailfish is a valid angling target.

June

It’s usually around the start of the month that everybody looks forward to the start of Red Snapper season. How could they not, when it’s so tasty and fun to catch.

July

Like tournaments? Check out Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo if you’re up for going up against a Silver King. It won’t be easy, but it’ll be more than worth it if you’re successful.

August

The weather is still hot, and so is the fish bite! Plenty of huge Redfish can be found all over, while Marlin, Snapper, and Amberjack will be making the rounds offshore.

September

September is Redfish month in Louisiana, especially when it comes to Grand Isle. If you’re itching to go out to the rigs, you have a good shot at some huge Cobia.

October

The Redfish bite is stellar as ever, making it a very busy time for fishing guides all around the country. With schooling Bull Reds in clear water, nothing less can be expected.

November

As fall turns to winter you can expect to see Venice offshore fishing heat up. This is probably the best time to go after Wahoo, and Yellowfins are plentiful as ever.

December

It’s said that there’s no bad time to be fishing over at New Orleans - and it’s true! Nothing brings a smile to an angler's face as a Bull Redfish in 6 inches of water.

It rained hard the night before our trip, so the water was a bit more murky than our captain expected. But he was still able to put us on a lot of fish. The wind was a bit rough, so we couldn't go offshore like we originally wanted, but inshore was a hit. The ride home across the bay was a little bumpy but my boys loved the adventure and water in their faces.

Capt Brad was absolutely amazing. We were in New Orleans for a vacation and he was able to get us on flounder, black drum, red fish, speckled trout, and white trout. We did an 8 hour trip and was on fish the whole time. My wife was worried she would not be able to fish because of a previous wrist surgery, but Capt Brad assisted her and she was able to enjoy the experience also. DEFINITELY ONE OF THE BEST CHARTER I HAVE BEEN ON!

I surprised my husband with a birthday gift of fishing for a day. Captain James did not disappoint. He knew the right spots to take us from beginning to end. Despite the tide. wind issues and motion sickness we had a great time. Captain James taught me how to fish, I did pretty good for the first time, so dod my husband. Our Captain was Mr Dominique Duplechen. He was extremely knowledgeable and helpful on our fishing trip. My son and I had a lot fun while fishing with Harvest Lodge chart! We caught plenty fish and made memories for years to come! We also found out fish like zydeco music lol!!!
