Visiting Lake Winnebago to catch some Bass may sound strange at first. Wisconsin’s largest inland lake already has a reputation for Walleye and Perch fishing, but it’s also becoming popular as a Bass fishing destination. To make things even more exciting, you can participate in several Bass tournaments here in June.

Bass prefer warm water, so it’s no wonder they’re most active during summer. Whether you target Largemouth or Smallmouth Bass, it’s best to come from May–August. Since they’re usually in shallow water, it won’t take long till you reach your fishing spot. You can target Largemouth Bass as they’re cruising near the docks, so even a half day trip can be enough for a successful trip.

Smallmouth is a different story. They fight more ferociously, leap out of the water, and pull your line like crazy. They inhabit a wider area than Largemouth and you can even find them in the Fox River. It’s better to take a long trip if you’re after Smallies, since they like to swim around drop-offs, where it’s harder to spot them.

Starting your trip in Oshkosh gives you two options: fishing in Winnebago or Butte des Morts Lake. Both lakes have great fishing spots, but your guide will know just where the action is hottest at the time. Your equipment will be covered, so you only need to purchase a freshwater fishing license.

With such great Bass fishing on Lake Winnebago, there’s no excuse not to come!
