Bass fishing on Lake Whitney is some of the best you can find in Texas. This peaceful lake is only an hour-and-a-half drive from the center of Dallas and Fort Worth, which makes it a perfect weekend getaway. With several Bass species to go after and a year-round fishing season, there are plenty of reasons to come for a day.

The highlight of Lake Whitney is Striper fishing. The best time to go after these fish is from March–May, when they feed in large schools and provide amazing topwater action. You can catch them during other seasons as well, just look for them in different spots. Before the Striper peak season ends, there’s already a new star of the show – White Bass. Large schools are present in the lake all through November. Extra tip: the best action is early in the morning.

Largemouth Bass is another reason to look forward to spring on Lake Whitney. The best time to target them is from March–May, usually in shallow water. There’s nothing that these fish don’t bite, so there’s plenty of baits you can use. You’ll also find Smallmouth Bass here, but their numbers are dwindling and your time is better spent on the other Bass species.

Bass fishing in Lake Whitney is a good opportunity for novices to take their first steps...or casts. If you’re new to fishing and not sure you’ll like it, experiment with a half day trip. Experienced anglers know that the longer you stay on the boat, the more fun you have. Just get your freshwater fishing license in advance and catch some Bass!
