Where to catch Tuna
The largest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife is home to several ports that will open up the Atlantic to you. Most boats depart from the south of the island, as the waters to the north are choppier. Costa Adeje, on the southernmost tip of the island, has unrivalled access to the open ocean, and the variety of charter boats in its marina are testament to that! Other popular departure points include Las Galletas and Playa San Juan. Wherever you leave from, there’s chance for Tuna!
How to fish
Most Tenerife charter boats will take you trolling in the hunt for Tuna. You’ll be targeting this fish close to the surface of the water, often using outriggers to cover as much water as possible. Most captains use live or dead bait, with lures also being popular. Usually, all your fishing equipment will be included in the price of the trip, so just bring some enthusiasm and snacks and drinks to power you through the day!
When to go
Bluefin Tuna fishing is best in spring and autumn, and usually peaks in October and November. You can catch Skipjack and Bigeye Tunas most of the year round.
