Offshore Fishing in Miami

It's hard to choose between all the fun things to do and see in Miami, also known as “the Magic City." But for all the passionate anglers coming here, the choice is way easier. For most of them, the true magic starts and ends with the offshore fishing Miami has access to.

Whether you want to kite fish with live bait for Sailfish during winter, troll for Wahoo and Kingfish, or bottom fish for Grouper and Snapper near countless reefs and wrecks, the big game fishing charters Miami has in store won't disappoint even the pickiest of anglers.

What type of trip is right for me?

Thanks to the proximity to the Gulf Stream, you could be fishing for deep sea species just a mile from the dock. This means that catching monsters is possible even on half day trips, but if you're after the biggest of big, let Miami fishing charter boats take you farther offshore.

Full Day Trips

These trips last 8–9 hours and will usually see you fishing 15–20 miles offshore. You'll be targeting anything from Sailfish, Swordfish, Tuna, Mahi Mahi, and Wahoo to Sharks, Grouper, Snapper, Cobia, and more.

Swordfish Trips

If you're after that trophy Swordfish, these specialized full-day trips are made for you! Specially designed for hard-core anglers, these trips will take you 18+ miles into the Gulf Stream during the day or at night. You can also catch other Billfish, Tuna, Mahi Mahi, and Sharks on these charters.

Multi-Day Bahamas Trips

Don't miss the opportunity to explore the bite of the Bahamas when visiting Miami. These multi-day charters usually last 2 or more days and can also include snorkeling and diving. Only 48 miles from Miami, Bimini is the most common destination. Miami fishing guides will do everything to put you on monster Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, African Pompano, Snapper, Grouper, and Sharks swimming in these rich waters.

How to Prepare

Make sure to pack any food and drinks you'd like to have for the day, as well as layered clothing and sun protection. Fishing licenses are covered by all the licensed charters. Fish cleaning and professional tackle are included on most of the trips. Trips to the Bahamas may require additional fees.

Get ready to discover the magic of Miami offshore fishing with experienced local guides and stock up on bragging rights for years to come!

Book with a company whose crew is knowledgeable with the area, time is limited on tours and the best experience comes from local captains who know their spots, like Let it Fly Bowfishing!

Just get out there. Tell the captain what you’re looking to do and they’ll point you in the right direction.

Be sure you and people in your group have no sea sickness, or they can suffer a lot.

I was given advice from friends that fishing above the keys would not be that ideal. However, we had a great time and expect to catch more fish in the area soon.

Yes, but know your personal limitations. Choppy water is rough if you suffer from motion sickness. Prepare properly and enjoy.

Focus on the guide, not the boat. You don't need a 30ft boat to run around in the Miami bays and get to the good fishing!

Great time for Tarpon due to the shrimp hatch. Beat the heat. Beautiful weather. Fish at night when there isn't any boat traffic.

Either find a decent charter, have some friends who know the area, rent a boat to get to the spots where others are, or go to a jetty or pier. Can't go wrong with jetty or pier fishing and putting some shrimp/crab/ squid on a setup with a hook and a weight like a Carolina rig. Plenty of exotics in the canals as well that will bite even in December. Just watch for gators and snakes!

Takes no time at all to get to DEEP sea fishing...10 miles and you're at 1,000+ feet. Possibilities are endless but you better be with the right crew and boat or you're gonna have a disappointing day.
