    Lots of Fun

Fishung was slow, but it was the time of year. We did catch some and Captain Casey and the crew were great. We were fortunate enough to see a finback whale and an orca, along with lots of turtles.

Wahoo is the sprinter of the sea. Anglers love Wahoo fishing for blistering runs, wild head shakes, and delicious fillets. This fast, powerful game fish lives in open, warm waters and often patrols reefs, drop-offs, and current lines. Hook one and the fight starts fast and stays hot.

Most crews target Wahoo with bluewater fishing. Fast trolling is the top tactic, using rigged baits, spoons, and deep-diving plugs. Many anglers add a short wire leader to prevent bite-offs from sharp teeth. Planers or downriggers help run lures deeper; a planer is a metal device that pulls the line down while trolling. Wahoo also hit vertical jigs when they mark deep bait.

Expect an early start and a run offshore in steady seas. Strikes are sudden, and line flies off the reel in seconds. This trip suits anglers who enjoy action and speed, from confident beginners to seasoned pros. Bring sun protection, a hat, polarized sunglasses, and a camera. Pack snacks and water. Boat crews usually provide tackle and safety gear, but check with your captain about what is included. Handle Wahoo with care at the boat side due to their sharp teeth.

Before you go, check local rules where you plan to fish. Confirm fishing license and permit needs, open seasons, and harvest regulations. Rules change by region, so review current requirements and follow crew guidance on lawful catch and keeping fish.
