    (7 Hour Trip – Fisherman's Feast)

    Great trip!

This was our first time salt water fishing. The crew was nothing short of amazing. They were accommodating, informative, and a pleasure to be around. All three teen boys had a great time and were ready to go again as soon as we got in the car. What a great (and tasty) experience!

    (5 Hour Trip – Groundfish)

    10/10 Fishing Experience

Had a great day catching many different types of fish including red fish, haddock, mackerel, cod, sculpin, and we even saw a shark near the beginning. Originally we wanted to go tuna fishing but captain ira downsold us to go ground fishing to make sure we had the best experience possible and caught the most amount of fish. Would definitely fish with captain ira again. 10/10 crew, fishing, and knowledge of the ocean.

Wolffish are hard-hitting Groundfish known for powerful jaws and sharp teeth. They live around cold, rocky bottoms and love tight structure. Anglers target them for their bulldog fight and unique look. If you enjoy rugged, hands-on action, Wolffish fishing is a great challenge.

Most trips use bottom fishing or deep dropping over rocks, ledges, and boulder fields. Natural baits work best, including clams, crabs, shrimp, and squid. Heavy jigs can also draw strikes when bounced tight to the bottom. Use braided line for sensitivity and an abrasion-resistant leader to handle teeth and rough ground.

Expect strong head shakes and steady pressure near the bottom. The bite can feel like a heavy thump, then a dig for cover. This suits anglers who enjoy patient, technical fishing with simple rigs. Bring warm layers, deck boots, gloves, and a dehooker or long pliers. A stout rod, smooth drag, and a solid net help land fish safely.

Rules for Wolffish vary by area and can change during the year. Some places have strict seasons or do not allow harvest. Always check your local fishing license, permit needs, season dates, and harvest rules before your trip. Your captain can explain current regulations and safe handling practices on the day.
