Key largo back country fishing

In Florida Bay and around the Florida keys you will find yourself surrounded by mangroves. Thats exactly where these guys love to hangout, hence the name. Find yourself a creek or channel that deep with good moving water. We have been using live pilchard with a 1/4 oz jig head, hooked up to 20lb flourocarbon leader to a uni knot to 20lb braid. This setup is light enough to toss anywhere and strong to pull those big snappers off the magroves. Rememver to time the tides right so you get moving water. Good luck and tight lines

Fishing in the backcountry of key largo in shallow water. We are sight fishibg these big groupers hanging around under mangroves. We are using live mullet and pitching it under the mangroves where they live. Be sure to keep your distance from the shoreline so you can bring then out away from structure once you hook up. For tackle we are using a 20lb light tackle rod and reel setup. For leader we are using 60lb line because of all the structure. These fishing put out a great fight. Get out there and get on the great goliath grouper bite.

Yellowtails are all over the reefs right now. The bite is hot in the middle of the tide. Use alot if chum with oats thrown in. A very easy way to get them to see the chum slick and come closer is to keep a bucket filled with oats and mix with water. This will way down the oats making it sink slowly with the current. You should wait anywhere between 20-60 minutes before actaully casting any lines behind your boat. That way you bring in the yellowtail close without any fear from predators. Use light tackle with maximum 20lb flurocarbon leader. At the end use a small hook like a 1/0 or smaller. Use any kind if silversides or small white bait and cast off the back and let it drift back in the chum. Your bail on the reel should be open and free flowing. Once you get a bite the line will begin to leave your bail fast. Let the line take for about 2-3 seconds then simply close the bail and set the hook on the fish. Repeat this process until the cooler is full. Tight Lines.
