Key West offshore bite is on fire!

The water temp has been coldest I've seen in a few years. The inshore fishery was almost non existent for a couple days. Luckily as soon as the cold weather turned, the mangrove, lane snappers, and sharks slowly starting coming back. On the days with decent conditions and adventurous guests, we ventured to a bit deeper reefs looking for a little warmer water temps. We found some nice red grouper (season closed till May) and a verity of quality snappers. Beyond the reef has been decent. Not exactly all the designer fish, but plenty of action to had be had. Decent numbers of of cero, Spanish, and king mackerels, some cudas, and bonita have been caught. I heard of a handful of sailfish being caught, but was not luckily to hook or see any myself.

Yesterday was a pretty special day. Not only for our birthday girl onboard, but also for the crew. We spotted, chased, and caught multiple sailfish in as shallow as 25’ of water on the reef. As we ventured offshore it didn’t take long before we found some December mahi in 150’. We whacked a few mahi, then trolled our way back home, along the way we found some bonus mackerel in hawks channel. Everyday is different and yesterday was certainly one to remember.

The cooler weather is bringing our winter time fisheries. Live bait has been plentiful. Pelagic species including Blackfin tuna and mackerel are pushing in shallower towards the reef line. Makes for less commute and more fishing time! Inshore bite has been steady with impressive numbers and size of a verity of species. Cobia have been found on the wrecks. Big muttons in the shallow waters of the backcountry, and quality yellowtail and lane snappers on the patch reefs.
