The entire experience started with a discussion with Fish-On owner Brian Forman. While the great Lakes are salt-free, Brian is the salt of the earth. As a crew, my friends John, Joe and I have fished Lake Erie multiple times for Walleye, Lake Trout and Steelhead as the targets. We fished Lake Ontario for King Salmon. All of those trips were with the same Captain (Captain Vince). We limited out every time and landed other species too. We are from just outside Philadelphia, PA in the lower Southeast Corner of PA. Erie is in the upper Northwest corner. Both we and Captain Vince would look forward to the annual excursion and would stay in touch during the year. We have a special bond, in year one of our trips Captain Vince and his First Lady, Heather, actually took action that saved John’s life. We decided that our crew should fish all five Great Lakes, which meant finding a new Captain. A tall order. We chose to fish on the WI side since Joe is trying to get to all 50 states and WI was on the list of places to visit.
Fish-on had all 5-star reviews that were recent, for all of the crews. In the conversation with Brian he jokingly stated “The Captain saved your friend’s life and you limit out every year, and you’ve never gone out with anyone else - boy I have a lot to live up to.” We had a 3:30 five-hour trip out of Sheboygan, WI. The boat was roomy, well- appointed with a full working head, above and below deck seating. Jaxon is a knowledgeable Captain, Jaxon is a solid and skilled First Mate. Both are friendly, have a great sense of humor and know the lake like the back of their hand. The array of tackle was endless. We hooked into Chinook and King Salmon plus Rainbow Trout.
Brian called in the mid-trip lull to check on our progress. We had some great fights. The last fish in the boat was the King Salmon Joe landed. Both Jaxon and Brady expertly guided Joe and the boat as the silver King kept jumping and trying to shake the lure. Despite the deep muscle burn they got it in the net. Jaxon recommended the WI specific Spotted Cow to pair with our fish. Brady gave us an outstanding recommendation for dinner in Sheboygan too. Brian even called us at dinner for feedback.
