What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Sebastian, Florida for the first time?

Welcome to paradise! Between the inlet, lagoon, and beaches, there’s no bad place to cast a line here. Start simple — light tackle, live shrimp or soft plastics, and fish the tides early morning or late afternoon. If you try the inlet jetties, bring heavier gear and patience — the current is strong, but so are the snook and reds. Don’t forget sunscreen, a good pair of polarized shades, and your Florida fishing license. Don’t be shy about chatting with locals at the pier or bait shop — most will gladly share what’s working that week. If you’re short on gear or just want to skip the learning curve, book a local charter. The captains here know every tide, sandbar, and drift like the back of their hand. Sebastian has a rhythm all its own — once you feel that first tug, you’ll be hooked for life. Tight lines!

Because the continental shelf extends a long ways off of the coast, a longer charter really helps you fish longer because the travel time eats into your fishing time. If you want to go offshore, Id recommend booking the 8 hr trip to make sure you're able to try a few wrecks or locations to find the hungry fish.

If you are booking a charter ask as many questions to the captain as possible prior to your trip so there are no surprises. If you are buying live bait and not fishing with a guide be prepared to pay a premium. If you are surf fishing get there early.

We had a great time with Captain Sunny! It is a tough time of year though. He tried his hardest to get us to fish and we ended up catching six for the day. We will come back some time in March or April though when the fish are more active!

Our party of 5 adults had a great time. We even caught a very large trout and a shark! Lots of Mutton and other varieties of fish. The captain was personable, knowledgeable, and clearly experienced. We had dinner at Sebastian Saltwater, also a recommendation from the captain, and it was excellent. An overall memorable experience!

Snapper is out of season and the heat slows fish bites closer to mid day. Part of fishing though. Still a great time!

Yes, we went on the Indian River. Due to wind. I would like to go out of the inlet in the ocean the next time weather permitting.

Be patient with the weather and have additional days available in case your first choice does not work out.

Charter fishing is great as well as pier fishing, surf fishing is a little difficult with the gradual beach. March and April seem to be good times of the year.

July isn't the best month, but Captain Eric made it an enjoyable half-day searching for signs of fish and learning about the area's eco issues and treasure-hunting history.

If it's slow, make sure you have a Captain who will happily take you to different mangroves and structures to improve your chances. We did in Captain Shane Trottier.

Wait for better weather a little bit warmer would be recommended for more fish opportunity

If you’re fishing late February with kids, take plenty of warmer weather gear.

Reef fishing is good, schnook fishing in inlet take some motion sickness meds first

If you can’t go in a flats boat or in a boat that weather allows in the Atlantic, don’t go!!!

Was a little tough fishing because of a cold front, can’t control Mother Nature.

Waters can be a bit choppy. A bit better in April/May. But the fish still bite well.

Be prepared to accept not going out into the ocean and still having a great day!

Try a charter and go with the professional. It's a lot better then a quite day at sea.

Definitely go on a guided trip... the knowledge of the Captains make the day much more productive.
