Saltwater fishing is my passion. I grew up in Kingsville, Texas fishing Baffin Bay as a child. I now live in Victoria and love to fish in the bays around Seadrift and Port O'Connor.

I messaged him before hand to make sure I booked the right trip for the kind of fish we wanted to target and he messaged me back quickly to confirm the best trip. He worked his butt off to get us fish! We limited out on Red Fish (which is what we wanted to target), and got some drum and a few trout. Would highly recommend using Jon he did a fantastic job getting us on fish and moving when they would stop biting! He baited and cast our rods where he thought the fish would be! We will be booking more trips in the future!

High tide, windy and raining at times; we started trying to catch trout but water was to murky, so Captain Jon moved us around to locate the fish as we first got our limit on black drum, then went after redfish. We took home nice filets from these 16 fish. We released several other black and red drums that were too small or over the quota along with a few hardhead catfish. Captain Jon did an outstanding job of maneuvering us around to get the fish and a great trip!

Halvdagstur (PM) • 2 voksneWell I really do not know how to describe our trip accurately. I have fished literally my entire life. We are fairly new to saltwater fishing so I booked three trips for my sons 19th birthday and each cancelled on us for various reasons. Captain Jon Mahan accepted a last minute booking and it was absolutely incredible. The first hour was good fishing. My son and I caught all the fish that we wanted to keep. The location we were fishing got a little crowded so Captain Jon moved us around a few times each time catching fish. Captain Jon then moved to another location that makes this hard to explain. For two solid hours we hooked into large Reds on every cast! We literally would cast and start counting. Before we could get to 10 the line would start running. We lost count very quickly on the number of Reds that we were catching. In the process catching 3 over slot! The thing that impressed me the most about the captain was his willingness to explain everything to us as we went. Why we moved, why we were casting where he told us to, how the fish schooled and how he suggested to bait our lines. When we had a question he answered. Needless to say we will defiantly be using his services in the future.

Limits of Redfish with Bonus Black Drum

Light northeast wind this morning, a falling tide and cool weather. This made some great conditions for catching limits of redfish and a couple of bonus excellent eating black drum. Black drum is a very common menu item in seafood restaurants along the Texas gulf coast because they can be legally commercially harvested from the bay unlike red drum, aka redfish. In my opinion, smaller keeper sized drum are better table fare than red drum. Both are drum but black drum is whiter meat. Black drum are not the same as a freshwater drum as far as table fare, they are much better. Anyway, live shrimp caught all these fish.

Limits of Redfish Today

Today I had the opportunity to fish with Dennis and Theresa from the Houston area. This was an awesome trip. The redfish were so thick and feeding heavily with a falling tide that large shrimp could be seen jumping all over the place. The redfish were literally in a feeding frenzy gorging themselves as these crustaceans were being flushed out of the estuary. It did not take long for this couple to get a two man limit of redfish after the same thing they were feeding on was placed in from of them on a hook and leader. Dennis and Theresa will be enjoying several blackened redfish or redfish on the half-shell meals this week. Thank you for the trip, folks. I had just as much fun as you did!

Double Limits on Live Shrimp

Today we fished the Chasco Tournament and were the only boat that I heard of that produced limits of both specked trout and redfish. All these fish were caught on live shrimp. Live shrimp is what these fish are naturally feeding on this time of year so it makes sense to use that as bait. The fall tides, a new moon and hurricane activity in the gulf have created near perfect conditions for catching trout and redfish around Port O' Connor, Texas. This successful trip would not have happened without the hard work, motivation and perseverance of these three awesome clients! Hats off to a job well done.

Black Drum and Redfish Action

More delicious black drum and redfish hit the cleaning table today for my clients. Live shrimp was the ticket for this successful trip. I will personally filet the most common species (trout, redfish, drum & flounder) you catch and bag your catch up in ziplock bags at no additional charge. However, if you want to go catch sheepshead during the season I use a professional service to clean these wonderful eating fish because they can be tricky. The extra charge is $3 per fish. That is what I am charged. I do not make anything on sheepshead cleaning, I just want it to be done right for my clients so they can enjoy these tasty creatures free of all bones.

Fishing in Port O'Connor

I had the opportunity to fish with this wonderful family and they had the absolute greatest time reeling in all these big keeper redfish and wonderful eating black drum. The look on this young lady's face watching her reel in this giant redfish is the reason why I do what I do for a living!

Nice Redfish and Black Drum Catch

Caught some good eating sized black drum and a couple of nice redfish with some very happy repeat clients. They wanted wanted some drum filets to eat! Black drum is one of the best eating fish in the bay in my opinion as long at they are the small ones 14" - 17". Live shrimp worked best.
