Halvdagstur (morgenøkt) • 2 voksneKaptein Miguel og styrmann Lino var begge fantastiske - vennlige, engasjerende og fulle av kunnskap om Panama, de lokale farvannene, dyrelivet, historien, og selvfølgelig den beste måten å fange fisk på! Vi kjørte 30 minutter forbi lasteskipene ved kanalinngangen til 100-fots dypet hvor vi trollet og hektet en Tunfisk (Svartfinnet) på omtrent 5 minutter. Bittene var jevne over de neste 90 minuttene og vi fikk inn 4 tunfisk, og en fin Mahi Mahi. Lino filéterte fisken for oss, og vi endte opp med å ha litt sashimi og ceviche midt på formiddagen. Wow! Det begynte å bli varmt, så vi kjørte til Taboga for en rask titt rundt, og så tilbake. Toppen av Panama!

Heldagstur – Taboga Island • 4 voksneSå flott tur! Innen klokken 8 hadde vi allerede fanget så mye fisk at det begynte å bli rutine, så vi dro videre for å lete etter mer krevende fisk. Sønnen min håpet virkelig å fange en mahi mahi, slik han hadde gjort for noen år siden. Selv om han ikke fikk en, endte vi opp med å fange 3 forskjellige arter. Kapteinen vår, Miguel, var fantastisk! Han serverte oss fersk tunfisk sashimi rett på båten. Da vi stoppet på Taboga til lunsj, lagde restauranten han tok oss til også noe av tunfisken vår. Det var kult å se så mange forskjellige typer skip gjennom dagen og lære mer om hva hvert av dem fraktet. Takk for en minneverdig dag!

Heldagstur – Taboga Island • 2 voksneKaptein Miguel og styrmann Pooras var fantastiske! De vet hvordan man fisker, var veldig informative om landet og viste en fantastisk gjestfrihet!! Vi fanget en stor seilfisk og en Mahi Mahi som vi laget deilig ceviche av om bord, og hadde litt til lunsj på Toboga Island. Vi fanget også en tunfisk som de laget sashimi av, samt en grouper. Hadde flere fisk på linen som spyttet ut kroken før jeg fikk dem om bord. Kunne ikke vært mer fornøyd med opplevelsen på Blue Lobster med Miguel og Pooras. Jeg vil anbefale 8-timers fisketuren fordi hver del av den var fantastisk! Jeg ville ikke ha gått glipp av noen del av den fantastiske opplevelsen de ga meg!! Så utrolig dag på vannet!!!

Når en fisk bet, var det vår tid til å skinne. På et tidspunkt hadde alle 4 linene fisk. De veiledet oss og heiet oss frem mens vi dro dem inn. Vi fanget totalt 8 fisk, hvorav 1 var en mahi mahi. Boris renset den rett på båten, og vi hadde fersk ceviche i løpet av minutter. Ville tatt denne turen 100 ganger til. Vi hadde det kjempegøy. Kaptein Miguel og Lino gjorde alt de kunne for å få meg på fisk, men det var bare en av de dagene. De kan veldig mye om områdets flora og fauna, samt landet - så jeg lærte mye og fikk se flott dyreliv mens vi prøvde å få noe på kroken. Kaptein Miguel forklarte hele tiden sin plan, og i den siste timen fikk vi endelig fisk. Jack Crevalle og Spansk makrell fant veien inn i båten, og jeg nøt en deilig sashimi. Alt i alt en flott opplevelse. Man kan ikke klandre turoperatøren eller mannskapet for en treg dag og søppelet som fløt i vannet, noe som førte til en 4-stjerners anmeldelse.

Fishing in Panama during the rainy seaso

This week, we have been getting the first few rains of the season. This means nutrient-rich waters from the warmer South Pacific will attract microorganisms, which will then attract the upper stages of the food chain, in other words, bigger fish. Pelagics like tuna, mahi, sailfish, and Marlin will be our predominant bites until November.
This day, as we were passing the deepest waters on the way to the Pearl Islands, with an average of 200 feet deep waters, we encountered huge bait balls full of diving birds, which gave us the first indicator of fish around while deciding where to throw lines we spotted some dolphins. There's something that we can tell with dolphins: tuna. We started shifting our lures to cedar blocks on our trolling lines and had our spinning lines with poppers ready to cast them. Whenever we got a bite on the trolling Lines, we immediately cast those poppers and maximized tuna bites. Welcome to Panama game fishing mecca! Sail fish surpise!

The fishing species in Panama are pretty well marked mainly in 2 seasons:
The rainy season is in the summer; this time, the waters get warm, which is best for sea fishing. The other season is winter, which is not a cold winter (same temperatures as summer), but it's when the water gets chilly. And we focus on deep-water species.
However, between these marked fishing species seasons, there are unexpected species surprises! For example, since June, we've been getting a more active than usual number of sailfish on our bites.
From half-day trips to Extended trips, the extended South Pearl Islands and full-day Pearl Islands have the most sailfish catches. We practice catch-and-release for this species, and when possible, we board the species for a nice picture and then release it.
The most popular lures for attracting them have been Ballyhoo rigged with an artificial skirt and normal fake surface squids.
