Cabo Fishing Begins With a Boat Change
The group was originally associated with the Blue Water, but a mechanical problem required a change before the fishing day.
They moved to the 43-foot Blue Sky and continued their charter with Captain Luis.
The objective was tuna.
An eight-hour schedule gave the crew useful flexibility to search offshore while accounting for travel time in both directions.
No tuna were recorded.
Cabo Blue Marlin Fishing Produces Two Fish
Instead, the Blue Sky encountered two blue marlin.
These powerful offshore predators require coordinated work between captain, crew and angler once hooked.
Unfortunately, neither marlin survived the fight.
Both fish died and therefore could not be released.
Blue Sky Cabo Fishing and Tours maintains a policy of releasing marlin whenever possible. This particular charter produced an unusual outcome where release wasn't possible.
Historical fishing reports should document those outcomes accurately.
Cabo Fishing Can Change the Original Plan
December 12 also demonstrates why target species and actual catches can be very different.
The anglers specifically wanted tuna.
Captain Luis and crew could search productive offshore water and present the appropriate fishing spread, but gamefish movement ultimately determined what appeared.
The day's opportunities came from blue marlin rather than yellowfin tuna.
At 2:00 PM, the Blue Sky returned to F Dock after completing the eight-hour charter.
The final record was two blue marlin caught, neither released, with no tuna recorded.
