Our experience on “Brag & Release” bore no resemblance to what was posted on Captain Al’s website.  We took the three hour in-shore fishing trip with Captain Al, and boarded his boat anticipating a good outing.  While sitting in the harbor just before departing the dock, Captain Al told us not to expect to catch any “keepers” because we don’t go out far enough with the time allowed.  Yet, Captain Al’s website says nothing to this effect.  The website indicates flounder and spotted trout along with black sea bass were the species we were looking for.  Last I knew, flounder and spotted trout of very significant size are caught in-shore.  After traveling about thirty minutes to a fishing spot and the engines being cut off,  Captain Al told us he was supposed to give us a safety talk and advised us where the life jackets and fire extinguishers were located. This should have been done before the boat left the dock.  In addition, the life jackets were nowhere to been seen and looking down in the cabin of the boat, only disarray existed.  Three former US Navy sailors were on board and it is our opinion that any captain would be ashamed for his boat to be in such disorder down below.  While not totally unexpected, with three or four foot swells, three of our party became seasick, Captain Al remarked, “three down, three to go.”  The website states there is a “head” on the boat, but Captain Al told the women in our party that they could “pee” in a bucket, go overboard or sit off the back. This may have been related to the rough seas but is a totally inappropriate thing to say.  He finally did suggest we go into a sheltered area which we did.  Joey, the mate, was superb in every way and we’d be thrilled to go with him if he gets his own boat!

Dear Mr. Hankins, I’m sorry you felt that this was the worst trip you ever had… and I’m going to try to reply to all of your concerns listed above.  Lets start with the website,  there is no where on the website listed as an” IN Shore Trip”  All of our charters are listed by ” OPTIONS”  option 1 thru 6. your option stated 3 hrs . for people on a tight schedule,  plus you knew you were fishing from a 28’ boat, you would of known a 28’ boat can’t possible maneuver thru the marshes of the In Shore waters. . Moving on, If you recall the conversation we had the night before your trip we discussed the chances of catching keeper fish, and you didn’t seem to have any objections, if you did you should of said something, we didn’t wait till you were aboard to tell you this, you did catch a bunch of small Black Sea Bass, and a few other spicies of fish, and lets not forget the 3 Sharks that you guys caught and took home. As far as the safety instructions, I’ll give you that one, but all in all I still informed everyone where all the safety equipment was located, also you don’t need to see it, knowing where it is is sufficient. The disarray of the cabin was explained that there was work being done on the boat and yes it was a little messy. I don’t understand what the cabin has to do with you guys fishing above deck in the cockpit area, unless your the messy boat police. Yes the seas were a little rough and yes 3 out of 6 in your party were sick, but even so they were in good spirit, if you were offended by me saying 3 down 3 to go then you need to get a sense of humor, because the ones that were sick thought it was funny. As for the ladies aboard it was discussed that if anyone felt they might feel that they may be getting sick not to go below to use the “HEAD”  all the ladies agreed, this was out of concern to make their trip as pleasant as possible, most men and women usually appreciate letting them know not to go below. Thank You Captain AL

Could not of had a better experience. We had a party of 4 and we showed up a little late, but Capt. Al said no issues, all is good. The day was bright and sunny, what more could you ask for but for a day of deep sea fishing. His deck hand Rodger was great and helpful with the bait and helping us pull in the 8 sharks we bagged that day. Both were helpful in pointing out things we were doing wrong. I would highly recommend Brag and Release for any fishing requests. Capt. Al and Rodger were top-notch. Will definitely come back and again and they will be our first request.

My wife and l always wanted to go deep sea fishing and finally got to go with captain Al and Steve on 2 charters. The first charter was 38miles out and we caught soo many fish including red snapper grunts and Black Sea bass but the highlight was the 5 sharks we caught wy wife out sharked me 3 to 2. Our second charter was only 20 miles out and captain Al put us on the most amazing group of Black Sea bass it was the most incredible experience of my wife and my life. We caught over 200 fish that day not all keepers but like Captain Al said if every fish you caught was a keeper you would be limeted out in10 minutes where would the fun be in that and after all isn’t that what your there for the experience. The most enjoyable part of the whole experience was to see the enjoyment and happiness on my wife’s face not to mention that l had the time of my life.Thank you from the bottom of our hearts Rhonda and Sam to Captain Al and first mate Steve hope to see you soon and go back out fishing

This was hands down the highlight of my whole family’s vacation in Myrtle Beach!! We did the 3 hour charter as a surprise for my husband’s birthday. Not only was it super fun but we all had the opportunity to catch fish!! When our group wanted to try to catch sharks, the first mate Steve did everything he could to make it possible—and we ended up catching three! Seeing my husband’s face light up when he reeled the shark in was priceless!! Both Captain Al and Steve were super friendly and accommodating, and made the whole experience absolutely incredible. We all had an amazing time and couldn’t stop talking about it our whole ride back to NY!! We will definitely be looking to book a full day trip in the future and will recommend them to all of our family and friends! Thank you again for making this such an amazing experience for all of us!! This memory will last a lifetime!! We fished 5/27/16.

Four of us went fishing for my husbands 50th birthday. We hit the jackpot with Capt Al and his mate Steven.  They care about making your experience a memorable one and guaranteed we would catch fish!!  Capt Al knew exactly where to go and we had some great “sweet spots” where the fish were practically jumping in the boat.  We caught an abundant variety of delicious fish and adopted Capt Al as our Uncle!! We are all looking forward to booking our next trip on the “Fantasea Lady” with “Unlce AL”.  It was our best fishing trip EVER!!!

I chartered Al after reading past reviews, let me say that everyone’s review I read was spot on.  I’d strongly recommend these guys if you want to have a wonderful, memory lasting time.
This trip was all about my 7 year old son.  We flew down from NY just for fishing.  From the minute we walked from the parking lot to the boat Al had Evan engaged and ready to go.  Joey joined in and the whole trip was about Evan, exactly the personal touch I was looking for.  After a slow start at our first fishing location, Al noticed Evan getting a little worried he wasn’t going to catch anything and then we were quickly on our way to another location.  Once we set anchor the Sea Bass and trout were practically jumping into the boat.  Evans smile became concreted to his face, everything was perfect, then it got better, my brother who was also with us pulled up a small shark!  Joey held it firmly so that Evan could touch it and examine it from head to tail.  Captain Al told him he could take it home and eat it with the bass if he’d like, but Evan decided to throw it back so he could catch it next time.
Let me say thank you again Al and Joey, your kind and personal nature made my sons first off shore fishing trip one he will never forget.  We will see you again sooner than you think!
Our fondest regards,
Ian, Evan and Brian Weslek

Took two of my grandsons along with their mother out for a half day… just for the experience.  My grandpa took me out fishing when I was about their age, so it was my time to do the same for the boys.  The captain and first mate were fantastic.  We ended up catching about 70 fish that day.  It was an event they will remember the rest of their lives.  Who knows… they may take their grandkids out some day… just for the experience… But I don’t think they’ll be so highly privileged 55 years from now to enjoy the same Captain and first mate. That may be the only negative.

We had an excellent half day fishing trip.  I took my wife and two boys.  It was their first experience deep sea fishing.  The captain and crew were very accommodating to all of our needs.  My youngest son had never even caught a fish before this trip.  Initially we were not too picky about a particular fish so we enjoyed catching the sharks.  Eventually we grew weary of shark after shark and moved on the catch some Sea Bass.  We enjoyed the trip, and will return.
