Overall it was a good day fishing.  We were a bit disappointed that we had a different boat and captain than we booked.  It kind of defeats the purpose of these reviews.  It seemed to be a thing over there as it happened to us twice- we would book a trip with someone we had researched and someone else would take us out.  In both cases, the replacement captain was fine- we caught lots of fish… but no marlin.  I’m not discouraging someone from booking here, but be aware that it may not be who you get.

Even though what I was initially looking for was a marlin, we had an excellent day of fishing, 10 mahi-mahi, of which, the first one escape, another the line broke, we took 6 to eat (perfectly prepared and zip bagged by Will) and two released , we also catch and release 8 black tunas. Jorge the captain, excellent knowledge of the area and Willburg the assistant, also, excellent knowledge and treatment. I will definitely go back for that “UNICORN” at the beginning of January 2018

The captain (Jorge) and deckhand (Will) were fun, professional and efficient.  Actually, Will is the best deckhand I’ve ever seen.  The boat was comfortable and fast.  We were on fish in no time.  Well stocked cooler - the deckhand made fresh sashimi from the yellowfin we caught.  All in all a beautiful day with special treatment.  Saw pods of whales spouting and breaching - magnificent,

We had a great day.. the weather was beautiful, but unfortunately the fish weren’t biting and we only caught one tuna.. Crew did work hard to try to find us more bites, and we had a great time following a school of dolphins..100s of them.  This boat is fine if you’re trying to save a few bucks, but the quality of the equipment and the $100 marine toilet (basically a small, moving plastic box) I had to use in a little dark room while swaying around left little to be desired.

Capt Reyes and First Mate William were an ace crew that put us on a Mahi Mahi and two Sailfish within the first 1.5hrs of fishing!  This crew and outfit did an amazing job at helping our party of three be successful on the water.  An incoming storm system changed our plans and forced us to come closer to the shore for some bottom fishing for Red Snapper.  All in all, the team was very professional, knowledgeable, and courteous.  Our total haul consisted of 1 Mahi Mahi, 2 Sailfish, and 2 Red Snapper.  A great day on the water and an unforgettable memory.  Hands down I would highly recommend a fishing trip with Capt Reyes and First Mate William.

Second trip out with Allin was even better than the first day fishing!! We had the crew get some live bait for the second day out with the idea of getting into some roosterfish. It worked out as planned, with a big rooster for my buddy and a assorted group of pacific fish.

My son loves to fish, so I took him on what started as a half day of fishing. We quickly decided that we would like to fish longer. The crew was more than accommodating. We had a wonderful lunch of the mahi mahi that we had caught 2 hours previously. My son and I had a wonderful experience. So much so that he is contemplating the life of being a boat captain. Thanks to Will and his son Nathan. You guys were great!!!

1/2 day with wife and 2 daughters (13 & 10).  We are from Florida, have our own boat and fish often.  Really wanted to catch a Rooster fish.  It’s our first time in Costa Rica.  Captain George and Mate Will were EXCEPTIONAL to me and my family !  We’re very friendly and made us very comfortable.  To say we had an amazing experience would be an understatement.  I’ll save the best for last.  We caught a huge Jack, some grouper and time fish (for dinner), had pods of swimming dolphin around the boat…. and the icing on the cake… a 75 lb Rooster !!!!  I will try to upload pics.  Thanks so much !  Would fish with you guys ANY DAY !!

Experience. I would recommend. We caught about 8 tuna and one wahoo within one hour of the half day adventure. I didn’t catch my trophy fish, but the experience was great for the price and I would recommend this charter to anybody that comes down to Jaco and wants to fish.

Super friendly and accommodating! The four (2 men, 2 ladies) of us had a great time (despite some seasickness early in the day).  They provided drinks and fruit. They cleaned and packaged the fish for us right there on the boat. The boat was in good shape but camp toilet in the storage hull was a tight squeeze. We were disappointed that the fish weren’t biting and we only caught one. For the money we paid it would have been nice to have been offered an extended trip or discount on a future trip. But it was a good day fishing! We would recommend them for a group no larger than 4.

We caught one Sailfish, one large Blue Runner and about 45 Yellow-fin Tuna.  We were extremely happy with the captain and his first mate.  They were very professional, accommodating, friendly and worked very, very hard to put us on the fish.  The first mate kept the boat organized and clean the entire time.  They had Subway sandwiches, fruit and drinks a plenty.  The first mate even cut up one of our Tuna for some extremely fresh Sushi.  I cannot recommend this trip more highly.  We had a great two days and will definitely use them again when we come back.

We started out the trip by attempting to catch live bait. For 2 hours the first mate and capt tried to catch live bait but to no avail. In all my past trips live bait was pre purchased or was bought from another boat. So once they gave up on that we troll fished for the remaining 5-6 hours. All we caught was one Spanish mackerel.

I understand sometimes the fish aren’t biting and it’s not the capt’ s fault. I would have rather fished only inshore and used live bait like we asked. I felt the crew could have done a better job aquiring live bait since lures were not working. They did let us cast for rooster tail for an extra hour which was a nice change of pace. Overall the capt/crew were very nice and the equipment was adequate. Fun trip but catching fish would have been better!

I had read a lot about how excellent the sail fishing was from this region of Costa Rica and read many review about over 700 sail fish being caught during a tournament in late January.  However, the captain said on the day of our charter, sail and other bill fishing was very slow.  We did get a few bites and finally caught a 30 lb. yellow fin tuna during a full day fishing trip, but this was disappointing since we had two of us on board.

Capt Henry was not feeling well and sent us off with his second in command and a mate.  They were both very friendly and safe but perhaps not as accomplished as Capt Henry.  We had specified the fish we were after (no sails or marlin) as we wanted “dinner” fish to have prepared locally.  We caught a few small grouper and some other small fish I did not recognize.  I felt we would have had more success had Capt Henry been present to lead this charter.

Henry was the captain we saw reviewed and the one we booked. Unfortunately for some reason Henry didn’t show on the day of the trip. Instead we got two deckhands who weren’t very friendly or welcoming and we’re also unable on a 8 hour full day trip to put us on any fish worth catching. We did eventually give up on Maho, Marlin, tuna, sailfish, grouper and snapper and did catch some less than 2lb “towel fish” (I believe they called them). Basically paid for an expensive boat ride to catch some very small fish I could have gotten a better fight from out of a pond in Kentucky. Very disappointed and wish I could get our money back. Not an exaggeration. Next time I’ll pay the extra money and get on a boat with a captain who shows and knows how to locate the fish Costa Rica is known for.

Captain Henry and first mate Will where great.  Henry informed us that the fishing had been a little slow.  However, while we watched the other boats continue out we started trolling early and we caught 3 sail fish.  I heard over the radio some of the captains had not landed any fish.  Then he heard of school of Tuna - we got there and what amazing show we saw with the dolphin and we quickly started landing yellow fin tuna.  Then after 5 he said one more “grande” and we landed a 40-50 lb yellow fin.  They were very good with our 3 kids (5,7 & 14).

I read about the review from the lady who was not very satisfied but Henry and Will treated my wife with respect and kindness and never did anything disrespectful and actually where great while she brought in her Sail Fish and tuna’s.

Lastly the locals all know Henry and said he was a class act which is very true.

Meeting up with the captain and the boat was a little difficult, as the directions weren’t very good. You had to take a dingy from a beach to the boat that was docked in a bay, but it wasn’t really an issue.

The fishing trip itself was wonderful. The captain in the mate very nice and really tried to accommodate our needs. The ocean was rough but the boat was very stable and had plenty of space to get out of the sun. Boat was definitely underpowered for its size (200hp on 28ft boat), but it got the job done.

Only complaint would be that the mate cleaned our catch on the way back to shore while the boat was moving. When I got home to cook the fish…it was riddled with bones from the cleaning. Big waste of a catch. But I did catch a nice sailfish so it wasn’t a total loss.

Got the fish all the way to the boat and got to take some pics with the beatific once in a lifetime fish! He also put us on some yellowfin tuna and all three of us hooked up at the same time! And we also had some fresh sashimi! Had plunty of beers and drinks for the 8hr day trip. We were vary satisfied with our trip and will book with him again if we ever come back!

My husband let me complete this review because my experience during this charter was different from his.  There were four of us for the trip - my husband, myself, our daughter and son-in-law.  We are not tourists that want to ride a boat and see the pretty fish - we are a tournament fishing family with all of us participating in ALL fishing activities - yes, even the girls!  We enjoy charting while on vacation so that we may have the opportunity to fish for species we don’t normally get to see or experience often off our coast….thus the first excursion we planned for our Costa Rica trip was an all-day fishing charter.

Without listing each incident that ultimately had me wishing the charter would just END so I could get off the boat….I will say this charter is geared toward MEN ONLY.  Women, in the eyes of the Captain and First Mate, do not posses the knowledge, skills or strength to angle a fish.  I was made to feel, more than once, inferior to the other fisherman aboard not only by their actions but also by verbal statements - even though my husband tried to explain more than once my level of experience and skill.  I conceded to the sexism and spend the majority of the day sitting and watching the dolphins - all the while my husband apologizing and feeling bad for me….but we had already paid for the charter (Captain asked for the money as soon as we boarded) so I didn’t want to ruin what could be salvaged.

That aside, we got into a pretty good Tuna bite which of course had the Captain excited….I did not educate myself on CR fishing limits/laws but our charter quickly turned into a commercial fishing excursion with a large amount of Tuna being placed in the fishbox - some being of questionable size.  I’m sure they considered it a bonus to get paid for a full-day charter and then turn around and double that by commercial fishing.

Bottom line - if you are a man reading this review that has a true lady angler you plan on bringing along…this is not the charter for you - she will NOT be included (in the Captain’s defense, he did offer to let me angle a fish….but held on to the rod until he got to the leader).  If you are a woman reading this review - move along sister….trust me, not worth the time or the money!

I would recommend Capt, Henry and his mate Danny to any and all,,,The day stared not so good. According to the radio chatter between captains no one was ho.oking up to any thing, But Danny the first mate was positive, fun, and kept as smiling. We even served us some chicken enchiladas to die for.I got to a point that it looked like we we going to get skunked. So we started to head in but the Capt had one more trick up his sleeve and suddenly, the mate, Danny cried out “fish on” and after a 40 min fight I pulled in a 80 Lb sailfish (which is average size)  we pulled it on board for a Photo op then sent it back in the water. Less than 10 min. Later the call of “fish on” rang out again and sailfish number two hooked up and the fight was on. However, this time he would get almost to the boat and run again.Capt. Reyes did a great job of positioning the boat and after an hour + battle and we landed the second sailfish. Which at aprox 130 lbs was huge for this species.
My wife came along just for the ride and was treated with the utmost kindness and respect. by both the Capt. Reyes and Danny the first mate.
the only thing that I could say that would be at all negative at all it was a bit unclear where we were to meet and that was partly my fault. I was looking for a big marina. When we were actually meeting on the beach and being run out to where the Allin was moored just off shore.
I would highly recommend spending a day with this crew because if anyone can get you fish it’s these guys.
