Went fishing on Sunday, June 21, 2015

Henry, my son, lives in New York City and I live in New Orleans. We’d hoped to have some time together on the water around Father’s Day, so it was a great that Captain Scott made a charter available around when we could go. We were in Houston that weekend to visit my Mom. Getting confirmed through Fishing Booker was a breeze; they were very helpful in making sure we connected with Captain.

Henry and I met Captain Scott at 5:45am Monday June 22nd at Boyd’s One Stop in Texas City for a day of trout and red fishing. Captain was preparing the boat when we arrived and by 6am we were cruising fast over Galveston Bay in his custom 27 foot tri-hull - an amazing craft for getting around quickly from spot to spot. It was easy to get to the right area for the early bite, just as the sun was starting to rise.

Father’s Day weekend had been an incredibly busy one for fishing in the area, and there was no live croaker to be found in any bait shops that morning. We fished shrimp and lures. Unfortunately the fish seemed spoiled on the croaker and hardly bit the shrimp.

Others may disagree, but it’s not a captain’s job to *guarantee* a charter they’ll catch fish. It’s their job to find as many spots where you have the best chance, given the conditions that day. On this trip our catch was light mainly due to the lack of live croaker but also because of record rainfall levels in the area. That said, Captain Scott worked very hard to give us the best chances. He really knows his way around Galveston Bay, and the surrounding inlets connected to the Gulf. He brought us from spot to spot with ease and was prepared in every way.

Captain Scott is a veteran fisherman with great natural skill and a warm disposition. He made the trip a great one for my son and I and we’ll definitely be back again in the future. Highly recommended!
