Went fishing on Friday, September 4, 2015

The trip of a lifetime, September 2015.  10 days on board the Swordfish with Capt Viv, cook Bridget and crew.  Loved the Swordfish.  Extremely comfortable and fabulous food (thanks Bridget).  Viv is tremendous.  I was born a Pommie but I’m now a true blue Aussie.  Capt Viv is the kind of Australian that made me want to take out Aussie citizenship - friendly without being sycophantic, knowledgeable and happy to share his knowledge, always on top of his game, always looking to make his guests’ day better, liberal with fishing advice without being pushy and with a wonderful dry sense of humour.  I felt very safe on board the Swordfish.  Oh, and the fishing.  Fantastic.  Barra galore (mainly 60 to 75 cms) and lots of other species.  And the mud crabs were divine.  As for the broken rods, one was a snag accident and the other was snapped by something huge.  We never got to see it even after 15 minutes of blood, sweat and tears.  Probably several hundred pounds of groper.  I still tremble when I think of it.

The cook Bridget was an excellent cook with beautiful meals every night.Boat was well maintained fishing dories were comfortable and fast.

The barra fishing was disappointing, but I appreciate the reasons for this. The reef fishing was very exciting..Life on board the Swordfish was great, and the food was exceptional.I can’t wait to return next year.

Thanks for the review John, We really did have a magical trip, despite the cold water keeping the Barra down. However we did catch a few other nice Jewie,s and managed a metre Barra, and a huge Cod plus others. Attached are some of the photos.

Viv and his crew provide a great fishing trip commencing with safety He has over 20 years in the territory and KNOWS the sea he adds his Marine Engineering skills to provide a worry free trip Like all fishing knowledge on which area what time /tide are best gives you the best possible chance of success the crew explains the plan and how to execute this   they have a good mix of barra and reef fishing
The Swordfish is not new but has a majestic feel   the tender boats ( Vis’s own design )are excellent plenty of room and solid in a heavy sea .
I have had 2 trips on the Swordfish and plan to return later this year

My third trip in 3 years and I will certainly go again. Viv knows the waters and is a very good seaman and marine engineer (which adds up to safety in remote conditions). He’s always keen to catch fish and understands the conditions, and where to go, probably better than any other operators in the region.
The conditions weren’t so good this year but we still had plenty of sport and caught heaps of fish. All in all, another great trip.

Many Thanks John for taking the time to write us a review. It was a shame about the windy conditions however as you say the fish boxes were filled, a good effort by your team. Look forward to travelling with you again. Will have to be sure and get some photos of you and your catch next time.

Despite difficult windy conditions, Viv and his team guided us into reefs, rocky shores and rivers where we were able to catch a wide range of fish species and each return home with an 11 kg box of fillets.  With the Captain being a marine engineer, the “Swordfish” and the 2 fishing tenders are well-maintained and super safe. A week away from phones, radios and TV, plus Tanqueray & Tonics at sundown is as good as a month’s holiday. I will definitely follow-up with my 5th trip in 2016.

After my first trip on Sword Fish 2 years ago with 2 of my fishing buddies, I decided to go again in March this year by myself.  Once again I found Viv and all his crew most helpful.  After leaving Darwin and arriving at the Moyle river system 24 hours later we were up early and fishing.  Even though the fish were quiet, Viv and his crew did their upmost to make sure that we caught fish.  Five days later we were all extremely satisfied with the results.  I would highly recommend any one looking for barramundi and reef fish to give Viv a call.

7 days of relaxation, plenty of good tucker, some good fishing including estuary for barramundi, and outside for golden snapper, and some trolling for queenies plus whatever. The mud crabs on Swordfish should not be missed. Thanks Viv and Bridget.
