Background: I was born in Destin, Florida. A place that was centered around saltwater charter fishing. Some call Destin the worlds luckiest fishing village. I’ve been fishing this area since I was old enough to walk and I have always had a passion for this industry. I love teaching young people and beginners the ins and outs of fishing. Seeing them excited about the thing I’m so passionate about is what I love.
Techniques: We Normally specialize in traditional bottom fishing. We use live and dead bait to present a natural presentation and produce steady bites and hookups through out the day. We also do live bait trolling and artificial trolling for mackerel and Tuna species, and offer shark fishing as well. We like to see our customers rod bent all day. We may change our approach depending on what’s in season and if the guest are after table fare, catch and release, or looking to land that one big trophy fish in a day.

Grey triggerfish open up March 1st

Grey triggerfish open back up for harvest on march 1. The trigger fish and vermillion snapper have been biting great along with red snapper and some other jack species. We have been theowing piles of triggers back the last month and are looking to bring some to the dock. Weather is good, calm most days and still pretty cool in the mornings. Great time of year to get on the water!

Fun afternoon fishing trip with a couple of old college friends. We fished a couple of Capt Matt's favorite spots and found some nice speckled trout! This crew will be back in July with their families. We can't wait to create more memories and send them home with some more fish for their freezer!

We had a great inshore fishing trip. Capt Lance showed us exactly what to do. We brought home 4 speckled trout and 1 red fish! We will definitely be fishing with Destin Backcountry our next trip to Destin.

Very difficult conditions! We tried what Matt could think of. Windy and went in the early afternoon( 2-5) very slow bite and Matt worked several techniques and spots. Ended up with 1 red fish. Our first and the largest legal fish we could possibly hope for! 26 7/8 inches!
