- My name is Captain Magnum Owens. I grew up in Destin Florida, the luckiest fishing village in the world. I started fishing ponds in Pensacola with my Paw Paw when I was 2 years old, catching bream with a cane pole, catfish on the trot line, and bass on the zebco. I was hooked from a young age and that led to me fishing the Okaloosa Island Pier and the Destin Harbor docks from the time I could pedal my bike to get to the bite. I have fished this area for the better part of 4 decades. I've had the priviledge to call this paradise my home and to enjoy the sport of fishing for the entirety of my life. Several years ago I decided to obtain my Captains license so that I could share my passion for this fishery and this lifestyle with friends and families from across the globe and make their vacation adventures memorable. 1st Choice Charters is a joint venture with my dear friend and colleague Blake Maddox who grew up hunting and fishing on the Chatahoochee river. Blake was a repeat fishing customer of mine for several years. He recently relocated to beautiful Destin Florida and wanted to pursue his passion for the sport of fishing as well. As a result 1st Choice Charters was born. We are dedicated to providing you with a top quality experience, sparing no expense to ensure your satisfaction with our vessels, gear, equipment, attitudes, professionalism, and expertise. - I love fishing of all kinds, whether it be bottom fishing for Snapper, Grouper, Amberjack, or Sharks. Trolling for Mahi, King Mackeral, or Wahoo but here is something special about sight casting Cobia and hearing that spinning real ripping drag, and the rare but exhilerating experience of a sailfish breaching through a ball of bait, smashing the flatline and throwing its sail up as you set the hook!
