Carolina Style Sportfishing is my “go to” charter on the Outer Banks.  This was my first offshore fishing trip with my son and his family.  My two grandchildren are 8 and 10 years old.  We had a wonderful time!  We only fished for half the morning due to my son and granddaughter having seasickness problems.  Despite that we caught 24 ribbon fish, which kept the kids busy reeling in fish.  Captain John and his mate were wonderful with the kids.  Had we finished the morning we would have filled my cooler with fillets.  I have fished with Capt. John for years and have never been disappointed.  Always a wonderful experience!

Fish are fish and you can’t make them bite. Capt John and mate Mason weee up front in saying a trip solely for sharks is hit or miss. They gave us the option to either target shark exclusively or drift for shark and try to pick up some ribbon fish along the way. I’m glad we opted for Option B. We all had a great time pulling in the hard-fighting ribbons on light tackle and although we didn’t come across a shark, the trip was awesome. Thank you Capt John and Mason! (Now if I could just get these kids to stop arguing about who caught the biggest…I swear they get it from their mom!)

First time vacationing at OBX and booked a four-person trip with Carolina Style Sportfishing. Captain John and Fist Mate Mason did not disappoint! The boat is a fantastic vessel and we were cruising out to open water to a great sunrise and scenery. Mason pointed out some of the interesting lighthouse spots along the way and shared a few hunting stories while he was busy rigging us up for the trip. It wasn’t long before Captain John had us on the fish and we were reeling in our first Ribbon.

Mason was a champ keeping the lines baited and the poles stayed busy all morning. We hit a few unexpected pop-up showers, but Captain John navigated through them like a pro and kept us on the fish.

After we filled the fish well with Ribbons, Mason rigged us up to chase after a few other species on the way back in to the dock.

We left with a full cooler of fish, some good stories, and a memorable experience on the Carolina Style…in addition to meeting some interesting folks at the marina!

A great time was had by all and we will definitely book again with Carolina Style our next vacation in OBX!

The proof is in the pudding.  Spent the morning on the boat. In 4 hours, 5 of us reeled in 64 fish.  I won’t lie, I was a little bummed about the variety caught, but it’s like the hand Mason said, “It’s hard to leave for new fishing grounds when the bite is this hot.”, and we agree.

I’ve now been on 4 charters, and this was the best boat for comfort, and a really hardworking crew.

Mason HUSTLED for each bite, getting the fish off fast and lines back in the water.  If Mason was looking down getting a fish off, the Captain’s eagle eye above was always watchful letting us know when a bite was occurring on another line.

These guys were awesome.  If you’re thinking about a charter, give these guys a shout.  They WILL NOT disappoint.

Even got to meet the owner when our boat came back, and chatted him up a bit.  Great guy.

My family of 4 + 2 great friends hopped aboard for our first charter experience last month - the conditions were perfect!  I was a little nervous about seasickness, but took a Dramamine before we left and felt great the whole time.  The boat was comfortable and offered shade if we needed it. Captain John was friendly & knowledgeable- Mason, was our guide/deck helper and he was great!  He got our lures to the right depth and the fish started hitting almost immediately.  We ended up with about 30 keepers and everyone enjoyed their time on the water.  Mason was busy setting hooks and rebaiting our reels most of the time, so we’re grateful he was there.
We only caught ribbon fish, and we used the same lures/bait the entire time - would’ve been great to catch a few more varieties, but we can only catch what are biting. 
We had a great time, had plenty of delicious fish to eat (ribbon fish were so yummy!) and definitely want to do another charter with Carolina Style Sport Fishing.
