Captain Blake Nelson is the owner of Last Cast Charters. He grew up in Destin, FL, and has been fishing the Choctawhatchee Bay and Gulf Coast his whole life. He and his brother began fishing in professional Redfish tournaments after college as a hobby, and eventually, it became a career. He’s placed first in the IFA Redfish Tour and has won several other inshore fishing awards as well. In 2017, he became the world champion of the Destin Cobia Tournament after landing a 98.5 lb Cobia, the biggest one caught in 10 years. He decided to start his own charter service in 2008 because he loves meeting new people and sharing his passion with others. He’s made a lot of friends on the water and is looking forward to taking you on the adventure of a lifetime. Depending on the boat you book, your captain may also be Capt. Mitchell, Capt. Destin bay fishing is in full swing right now! We are catching redfish, speckled trout, flounder, mangrove snapper, sheepshead, black drum, and spanish mackerel. For most of our trips we are using a combination of different live bait but we are also getting into some redfish, speckled trout, and spanish mackerel using artificial lures.

Spring is upon us and the fish know it. We are still catching redfish and speckled trout in the back bays, but we are also starting to catch sheepshead, black drum, and pompano around the East Pass. Around the pass we are using carolina rigs with live shrimp and in the back bays we are using a lot of popping corks (Send it! Popping Corks) with either live shrimp or small fin baits underneath. As the temps increase, the fishing should just continue to get better and better...Destin inshore fishing at its best!
