We are taking charters again as BC's Covid 19 restrictions have been eased. In accordance with WorkSafeBC and Provincial Health Authority guidelines, Amazing Fishing Charters is adopting the following procedures to reduce the likelihood of COVID-19 transmission during charter operations. The safety of our guests and crew is our top priority and we are continually monitoring health authority updates to ensure any changes are reviewed and implemented as applicable. For your safety and your guide, guests are requested to stay at home and not go on the charter if feeling ill. Guests will be provided a pre-trip briefing of COVID-19 protocols including the available sanitizing equipment and the benefits of frequent hand washing and personal protective equipment. The boat is thoroughly washed down following each charter and all contact surfaces are. sanitized prior to guests boarding the vessel. Charter frequency will be limited to one charter per day per vessel to provide sufficient time for cleaning and sanitation between charters. Guests and crew are required to wear a personal protective barrier covering both their mouth and nose while on board to help reduce the likelihood of virus transmission. Guests are requested to bring their own protective face covering for charters. Each vessel has a designated hand cleaning station for use by guests and crew. Cleaning stations consist of sanitizing wipes, and/or hand sanitizer. Now the fishing report: Yes there is still non-retention of all Chinook Salmon and wild Coho Salmon. There are plenty of opportunities for catch and release on each trip as we have found Chinook Salmon locally around Vancouver and over across towards the Gulf Islands. The water is pretty dirty due to the spring run off from the Fraser River so we have been using glow type flashers with a variety of glow spoons, hootchies and plugs. On some days, we have only used two rods as the action has been fast and furious. Recently there has been reports of retain-able hatchery coho showing up on the south side of Bowen Island. We were out yesterday and managed to find one in between numerous Chinooks. Coho can be found at all depths from 30 feet down to 120 feet on your riggers. Commercial prawning has started so we have shelved our traps for the time being. Crabbing remains strong but with the commercial crabbers starting, it will dry up pretty quick. It's time to go Fishing!

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans will regulate the Chinook Salmon fishery once again and have a non-retention period from April 1st to July 15th leaving fishermen only the remaining month of March to catch and retain a Chinook Salmon. We will be able to retain hatchery Coho Salmon. The prawning and crabbing remain strong so the bottom bounty is always welcome to anyone's day on the water. February 14, 2020 Exciting news....Long time and seriously talented fishing guide Roy Tanami has partnered up with me running his custom built 21' Cope Design welded aluminum fishing machine. Having Roy "on board" we can get more clients out on the water. Hopefully, the winter is leaving us and along with the strong winds, torrential rains and that whole week of snow... We have been getting out on those few weather cooperating days and it's been hit and miss for legal size chinook salmon. Typical of this time of the year, fishing near the bottom has produced whether using small size spoons, hootchies or bait. The prawn traps have been really producing this year. Currently the daily possession is 200 prawns per day and most likely on April 1st, the possession limit will be 125. The winter guests have really enjoy this bounty to top off a scenic day of winter fishing. Oh by the way, both boats have heaters to keep the chill off so give us a call and "LETS GO FISHING"

They say all good things must come to an end. Yes this past summer salmon fishery was excellent considering that the Pink salmon never materialized and the government had to shut it down due to poor returns. The chinooks were plentiful and the endless sunshine made for some exciting days for my many guests. Now is the time to think about getting out and target the winter feeder chinooks. These chinooks are the best tasting in my opinion and they range from 7 lbs - 15 lbs. It is also the time of year to drop the prawn and crab traps to top off your cooler. I'm very flexible on start times and dates because of weather and dress appropriately and LET'S GO FISHING!

Well there's not much to say other than the Chinook and Coho fishery in local waters is on! The Harrison and Chilliwack white Chinooks have arrived right on schedule after most of the red Chinooks have made their way up the Fraser River. This next wave of fish are the large variety and can easily hit the tyee class. We are fishing Sandheads, T-10 and North Arm for these brutes. Anchovies and Herring in chartreuse, green glow, UV or black/white teaser heads matched with green or chartreuse colored flashers. The extended summer sunny weather has helped because the fish are staging versus making a beeline right up the river when they get a scent of freshwater from the rain. The other targeted area is the Capilano River run of returning Chinook and Coho salmon. This area is very popular as you are often out of the wind and tends to resemble fishing in a Costco parking lot. We run only 1 rod off each downrigger as the fish tend to hold right on the bottom. Again, anchovy and herring is the bait of choice. Let's Go Fishing!

Well we have been under a smoky haze for more than a month now from the interior forest fires. Just over the past 3 days, the smoke has all cleared up and we can see our beautiful mountains and city landscape again. It looks like Chinook fishing has really picked up over the last few days as many of us guides are finding 20+ lb slabs near the Bell Buoy, North Arm, Sandheads and T-10. Hopefully this will continue as in the past years well into September. Coho and Pink salmon have been found along the West Vancouver waterfront from Point Atkinson to Ambleside. A wide variety of gear using herring, anchovy, glow hootchies in a variety of colors and spoons are being used. Each day is a quest to figure out what they want, but then that's fishing.
