- Background
- I am a native guide, born and raised in Key West. My uncle started charter fishing in 1945 and he helped to bring a lot of our family members into the industry. In the 80's through present day, I have had my two brothers, four cousins and my uncle all working in the charter industry. Now my two sons have also become two of the best flats guides in the Lower Keys. We have always viewed fishing and guiding as our passion, not just a job.
- Techniques
- I like to touch base with my anglers the evening before the trip to get an idea of what their expectations and skill levels are. From there we will create a game plan for the next morning that will provide them with the opportunities to score.

We had some chances at our target species but our casting needed improvement. Capt Mike was wise enough to know it was time for us to get some fish in the boat and we had fun with multiple species. We also took a run to find some bone fish but no luck. I think it was a good trip based on time of year and temperature.

Thanks for the good review and yes, Mother Nature rules this game. The great thing about flats and backcountry fishing is being able hide in the Lee of the islands and still catch fish despite the weather conditions. Hope to see you for tarpon season!

C Hawk Charters has never disappointed. I’ve been out with Captain Mike several times and would highly recommend. He knows the Key West flats like the back of his hand and will get you in the right spot with the right setup for the conditions. All of the equipment is in good condition and you can tell that they take pride in their work. I’ve never been out with the other guides from C Hawk but have met them all and they are very professional and friendly. I would wrap this up by saying that C Hawk is your best bet in KW. I had zero salt water sport fishing experience on my first time out and Mike was very patient and I landed a nice tarpon! Really what more can you ask for, it was a great experience.

Capt. Mike took my son and I out tarpon fishing in June 2015. It was the best fishing trip ever! To see our giant tarpon skyrocketing out of the water is a memory we will never forget. Thank you Capt. Mike!
