Our first stop was to get bait. That should have been done before we were picked up. Spent about twenty to thirty minutes getting bait. Captain Timmy had issues with trolling motor and power pole so couldn’t hold position well much of the trip. Seemed like we were casting over each other a lot. We fished shallow areas and no deep pools in ninety degree weather. I’ve fished freshwater extensively and know fish will go deep in the heat. I can only assume that holds true for saltwater too. We did try around some structure but without success. Also we didn’t try anything but shiners that didn’t get changed out often enough. Needlefish were killing them about as fast as we would cast them out. How do I know they were needlefish? Our baits often came back missing their eyes and a local fisherman clued us in to that info. I would have liked to have a couple bait options such as shrimp if the fish aren’t biting on minnows. We were more successful using shrimp while surf fishing on our own during our stay. We did catch a few fish but zero that were big enough to keep. Because it was hot and fishing can be rough I gave three stars otherwise this was a two star trip. I wish we would have been offered a discount for not catching anything to keep. Seems only right in my opinion. Captain is very young and although he might have a lot of experience with the area he doesn’t seem to have much experience with customer service. This could have been a one off experience but was enough for me to look into another charter when I come back to the island. I might just rent a boat for a day or two and go on my own since we had good luck fishing in the surf and from some piers. Inshore fishing can’t be too much different than fishing the rivers and lakes I’m familiar with for freshwater. Bottom line, the captain should have offered a partial refund. Why should I have to ask at the dock? Just look at the pics people are posting in the reviews. They’re mainly non fisherman just happy to get out on the water and catch something. If I pay that much I want some fillets to take home. Not necessarily a trophy but at least freezer meat.
