WHO WANTS TO CATCH FISH
WHO WANTS TO CATCH FISH
Apr 6, 2024 Wrightsville Beach
NEARSHORE Spanish Mackerel and Bonito have shown up on the beach. Best place to catch them is between 30ft-45ft of water. Liberty ship has also all shown to be holding fish. Kings mackerel have been being caught in better numbers (8-12 fish per trip). The best places to catch King Mackerel is around the 20-30 mile range. The water temps in these areas are in the mid 60's. the water quality, and visibility are much clearer. The bite will only get better the further you go. Furthermore. there are temperature breaks in these areas. half a degree can make a huge difference. Fish in areas like School House, 23 Mile Rock, or areas with good bottom structure that will hold the bait. Most productive lures have been Drone Spoons fished on #2 planers with 40ft leaders. OFFSHORE There are currently great temperature breaks in the 40-60 fathom range, North has been most productive for us, fishing Swansboro Hole, and points north along the break. This is where you can find Blackfin tuna, and Wahoo in good numbers. when the conditions are right. The most important aspect is bottom structure, look for ledges, and drop offs. Staying aware of the tide will give a better understanding on the fish bite. Focus on fishing either side of high tide, and low tide where the bite is best. When targeting Blackfin Tuna we have been using pink UV squid teasers set about 200-300 ft back from the boat, on the outside out rigger, and shotgun rods. The key to catching Tuna is to keep the lures out of the prop wash, and keep them in the choppy water away from the boat. Wahoo can be caught in the same areas. using planner rods close to the boat below the prop wash. Use small blue/white !landers, rigged with small ballyhoo, skirt rigs we custom designed with sliver heads. and white/pink/black skirts on flat lines ran above the planners on the surface.

Offshore BITE!
Offshore BITE!
Feb 18, 2023 Wrightsville Beach
Nearshore/Offshore: The King Mackerel bite has picked up now with the water temps in the mid 60โ€™s in the 25 mile range. There the water temps are in the high 60โ€™s 30 miles offshore/ Plus there are temp breaks in these areas. 100ft of water has been the must productive depth. We been catching king mackerel on white Drone Spoons fished on #2 planers with 40ft leaders. Wahoo, Sailfish and Blackfin has been steady. There have been some great temp breaks in the 20-40 fathom range or 120ft-240ft. Same olโ€™ hole, Nipple have been productive for Wahoo, Blackfin and Sailfish. 130ft โ€“ 160ft has been on fire for Sailfish, Tuna and Wahoo. That is were you can find Blackfin tuna and Wahoo in good numbers when the conditions are right. The most important thing is the bottom structure, look for ledges and drop offs. The tides have also affected the bit. Either side of high tide and low tide is when the bit is the best. Blackfin we have been using pink UV squid teasers set about 200-300 ft back from the boat on the outside out rigger and shotgun rods. The key to catching tuna is to keep the lures out of the prop wash and keep them in the choppy water away from the boat. Wahoo can be caught in the same areas. Using planner rods close to the boat below the prop wash has put fish in the boat. Small blue/white Ilanders rigged with small ballyhoo. Skirt rigs with sliver heads and white/pink/black skirts have been working great on flat lines ran above the planners on the surface.
