Our fishing trip included 2 grandparents and 3 grandchildren (10,12 and 14 years old). We met Captain Bob Matlock at 6am and off we went fishing. Captain Bob has 30 years of experience fishing in Port Alberni and we benefited from this. Captain Bob was a teacher and has great experience with kids. He was professionnal, kind, helpful and his equipment was top-notch. Under his guidance, we were lucky enough to meet our quota. We greatly recommend captain Bob Matlock. Thank you captain Bob!

Pour ce voyage de pêche, nous étions 2 grands-parents et 3 petits-enfants âgés de 10,12 et 14 ans. Nous avons rencontré le capitaine Bob Matlock au quai à 6h du matin et nous sommes partis pêcher sur son bateau. Nous avons pu bénéficier des 30 années d’expérience de pêche du capitaine Bob à Port Alberni. Capitaine Bob a eu une longue carrière d’enseignant et il est à l’aise avec les jeunes. C’est un pêcheur professionnel, gentil, aidant et son équipement était des plus modernes. Sous sa gouverne, nous avons été suffisamment chanceux pour rencontrer notre limite de possession. My son and two of his work friends had the pleasure of going out with Bob for a 6 hour salmon charter.  Bob was a super skipper.  Knows the area well, very friendly and outgoing. Very easy to spend 6 hours with.  He knew exactly where to go and were were able to limit out on some very nice Sockeye.  I have been on quite a few charters over the years and I would state that this was the best of them all.  Having a skipper that participates with the guests is outstanding.  Oh yes, and he also knows how to fish!!!

We had an amazing day with Captain Bob! Our experience began when he agreed only to take us out if the fishing prospects were good, and, wow, did he deliver. We all caught our limit of sockeyes within several hours. Bob’s intimate knowledge of the inlet put us on the spot and he worked tirelessly to help our novice family out. Bob’s knowledge, experience and patience are all extraordinary, and perhaps the highest compliment I can give is that we would have had a wonderful experience with him even if we hadn’t caught a thing. Thanks Bob for a great day on the water and hope to see you again next year!

I decided to lean into my un-employment by booking my first guided fishing trip with Bob.  It was just awesome!  It was the day before summer solstice and zero wind on the forecast.  Got out at 6AM and had the boat full by 8AM.  Bob had a great setup on his Grady White; everything was pre-rigged and ready to hunt sockeye for sockeye schools close to China Creek/ Cous Creek.  There were even Killer Whales out with us.  We had multiple double headers and a few real jumpers.  This isn’t a fish tale but… we managed to bat 1000 and didn’t even lose a single fish!! This is rare for sockeye and shows that you’re in good hands booking a trip with Bob.  Get out there!

What an incredible experience! Bob was prompt and ready to go and soon we had fish on the lines! It was a super busy day with dozens of boats on the water, because of the long weekend, but Bob navigated the waters expertly and we caught absolutely beautiful sockeye. My family and I will definitely book with Bob again. Highly recommend!
