What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Virginia Beach, Virginia for the first time?

I think cooler waters from Spring warrant better fishing imo. It was too hot but so many boats fish the rock piles to oblivion unfortunately.

Most all the charters work together to put you on the fish especially when the conditions are tough

This was an easy, short trip. It would be good for beginners or those unsure if they would like fishing. Good for experienced fishers looking to take it easy and just catch fish.

If you or someone with you is new to this, start taking motion sickness medicine the night before. My youngest son became sick, he took meds but only an hour before we headed out

Great first time fishing in Virginia Beach from a boat. Since I’ve never fished this area, the days experience was still very nice with the birds, fish, military drills all going on around us.

Absolutely recommend. Fun for adults and kids alike. But if your after tuna, be ready to work for it. But an awesome boat and great crew to go out with.

Captain Bob handles everything! We wore sneakers on the boat(first timers). Captain and first mate were in flip flops….. next time, I will also probably be in flip flops.

Sometimes catching the big ones is a lot of luck to be in the right spot. Remember it is a big ocean. The fishing boat captains talk to each other when they spot a school of big fish.

First time fishing in general, so I can't really say much about fishing in May in Virginia Beach, we had a great time though!

Be sure of where you wish to fish, let the captain know if you can tolerate rough water and charter appropriately

Bring dramamine if you get motion sickness easily and don’t drink heavy the night before the trip haha!

The fishing was hot but a cold front left some frost on the pumpkin which made the trip a little cooler than expected.

Book with Fly’n Fish Sportfishing and enjoy. Parking was easy. Hit the ATM before you get there, the one there wasn’t working.

Be prepared for hot weather. Drink plenty of water and stay away from sweet drinks. Trust in the knowledge of your captain

Definitely book a private trip. It costs a little more than the group boat, but it is well with it. Check an see what's running, so you have a better idea of what to expect. Definitely a great time.

Just have fun! Follow recommendations for seasickness prevention. Wear a hat and just enjoy the beautiful ocean and Capt Weaver’s boat!

Weather is always going to be a factor along with the water temperature. Stuff you can't control but you can't go wrong using Knot Wishin and captain Todd Beck.

You can literally go as someone totally new and not knowing anything. They teach you and help you do it all.

This was trolling, not fishing. Let crew know if not interested in keeping full catch. Mate Landon did a great job fileting fish.

Virgina is great for beginners not being able to actually fish and learn how to catch the fish was our biggest disappointment

From what Capt said, spring and early summer is best fishing time for kids. Still was a wonderful trip and we did catch some good fish!

Very informative on all aspects of fishing this area of coastline. We were all from different areas of the country on a business trip. Spectacular weather and nice seas.

Have to say — Rudee Inlet is ideal if you want to get off the dock and, in less than 15 minutes, on to 42 feet of gorgeous water with the year round chance of a variety of fish.

No idea. Capt was nice enough but would not recommend the two hour afternoon “fishing” sunset cruise

You have to be able to deal with the heat. Our fish like others run deep when it's hot! Night fishing is probably your best bet!!

Go at a different time in the year either early spring or late summer to avoid the crowds. When setting up time for fishing trip go out in the mornings to avoid the sun and get the early bite.
