What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Wanchese, North Carolina for the first time?

I prefer to book 1/2 or 3/4 day trips. No one's gets overly tired and I get to learn from different captains.

Good marina with all the amenities you would need in terms of ice, store, bar, parking and fish cleaning. We did an in-shore charter and got a good number of blues and Spanish Mackerel.

Going out of Wanchese is far better than I expected and everyone at the Wanchese marina are so professional and friendly!

Go with an experienced captain who knows the waters and has the proper equipment to handle whichever species you are looking for.

Watch the weather closely and take the advise of the captain on the timing. I would recommend that you have some flexibility in your schedule to make the trip all you want it to be.

The captain had to work hard to get us tuna. The end of April is still a little too early when NC had several heavy rain storms.

I can't answer that it was my first time fishing this time of year and in the outer banks

Be open to the Captains suggestions as to what would make your trip most productive.

Recommend fishing with some one familiar of the area like Cutawhiskie Charters!

Be prepared to change your target fish based on activity and what’s actually biting.

Have been coming for three years with my family. All the captains and mates have been great.

If it's a first time expedition - especially with kids - this is the trip to take!

I would recommend checking out the Alibi. Lee Tugwell is the Captain and we had an awesome time.

I recommend doing a six hour trip to everyone. Then hit the Gulf Stream for some big boy fishing

I would recommend waiting a little later in the year for the water temps to warm up a bit.

Wait until mid summer to late fall. Hire a guide or bring a friend that knows the area.

Talk to the captain prior and get some ideas about your trip. It's all about communication.

Manage expectations. Every trip is different- sometimes you catch, sometimes don’t.

Got a little more wet than I thought but it was a hot day so it worked out perfectly

Unfortunately we went out right after a storm and it was high tide which meant not much biting

I've booked both a shrimping and a fishing charter via the internet and both turned out great.

Bring sunscreen and plenty of water. Fish are biting so expect to be out in the sun.

Be specific with Captain about how many of the fish you catch, you intend to keep.

The tiki bar after fishing was great, the guy cleaning the fish was very, very good!

Easy and quick to get to plenty different spots for lots of different kinds of fishing.

I would recommend it but know that the fish that most are wanting to catch may be difficult
