What would you recommend to anglers fishing in Wanchese, North Carolina for the first time?

We did not catch any fish, but did get a couple of crabs. We were told the weather (sunny but very windy) contributed to the lack of fish. Still a great time!

If you want to get something closer inshore the black sea bass are amazing fighting and great table fair! That’s what we went out for and we had a blast!

Captain Elliott and his mate were excellent. Easy to talk to, really meshed with our group. Will definitely book next year.

It can get windy on the water as the boat is moving, especially in the morning so you may want a jacket. Be ready to be patient and enjoy the water and surrounding.

Check the weather ahead of time to book the best possible day. We didn't do that and we experienced difficult fishing conditions.

Ribbon fish seem to be what most captains target right away. If you want to fish for other species, make the captain aware early on

If you’re prone to seasickness make sure you have something to take. My husband was nauseated most of the trip after we got out to the fishing grounds.

Our trip was supposed to be near shore however because of high waves created by hurricane the fishing trip was in the sound. This was not an issue for us and we still had a great experience.

It's an easy boat ride from the marina in Wanchese. Weather can be rainy, but it's never cold in July, and the fish seem hungry!

It was a super trip and great captain and mate . Highly recommended this to any family or fisherman . Super time

We took our kids (ages7 to 16) on this fishing trip. Captain Ryan was very patient with them and made the trip fun for everyone! We caught some fish and saw some dolphins along the way.

If u have an idea what u want tell the capt of the boat most will do there best to get u what u want

Be willing to change with the weather sometimes you can’t get to the shipwreck because of it still had a good time fishing the grass beds in the bay

This was our first time and Mike was excellent at teaching you the basics and explaining what were we’re doing.

Bring lotion sunscreen not the spray so you can use it on the boat. Sun shirts if you have fair skin.

Had some quiet time without much action, but ended up with enough fish to. Catching a few large red drum offset the slow time periods, but fishing is unpredictable

Learn as much as you’re comfortable with beforehand, pay attention to your captain’s instructions. Watch carefully when he is demonstrating or if he is fishing and definitely ask questions.

Remind them that there is no head on many boats (not an issue for us, but I wonder how many people forget to ask). Even on cool days, LOTS of sunscreen.

Things just getting started in April, and if you are fortunate enough to catch days in the upper 60's and low 70's, I'm sure you'll find a much more aggressive bite!
