It's been a busy stretch over the last couple weeks, fishing almost every day from Father's Day through the July 4th weekend. Lucky for us, the fishing has been just as hot as the weather. HOT!! Anglers aboard "The Shear Pleasure" have had a great time pulling snook out of the mangroves and chasing tarpon around the bridges. Inshore, the trout bite has been surprisingly consistent and we are finally getting some nice redfish, just not in the numbers we usually see this time of year. The spanish mackerel have been hit or miss but we have been catching a bunch of small, fun-sized sharks that make for some exciting battles on light tackle. Also an influx of mangrove snapper have made for some nice fillets for those wanting to take home some fresh fish. We've been beating the heat by starting early and even including a quick stop at the beach for lunch and a dip. The long awaited tarpon run has not disappointed this year! We've got huge pods of fish in all the major passes, bridges and along the beaches. Lots of folks are putting these incredible animals in the air and making memories they will never forget! The inshore bite is still very good too and we are catching good numbers of snook, redfish, trout, mackerel and snapper. Also, fun-sized sharks, jacks and ladyfish round out some of the other species keeping rods bent. It's mid May and the fish in Tampa Bay are in full blown summer mode. There are #snook on the beaches, tarpon in the passes, bait is all over the bay and the bite is going off!! The snook bite has continued strong with the incredible numbers of last month down some but quality of fish way up! We've had a number of anglers this past week catch a #TampaBay trophy. The #tarpon made an early appearance this year are stacked up at the bridges and in the the major passes. Look for them to be feeding heavily especially around the outgoing tides around the new and full moons. We've been catching plenty of other fish in the bay as well. #Redfish, spanish mackerel and #trout along with a plethora of sharks, jacks and ladyfish have also been keeping the lines tight. The fishing has been nothing short of incredible over the last couple of weeks. We've been catching lots of quality fish on the flats with plenty of snook and redfish of all sizes as well as some hard fighting jacks, The sardines have filled into the bay now with hungry schools of mackerel, bluefish and sharks following close behind. With the water heating up as quickly as it has, the excellent kingfish bite won't last for much longer but the tarpon have made an early appearance and the "Silver King" will become our focus over the next couple of months. This month has been one of transition. Early in the month the water was still cool and trout, sheepshead and redfish was our focus. Now that the water has warmed into the 70s, Spring Has Sprung! The snook have moved out of their winter lairs and the bite has gone absolutely nuts! Redfish schools as well have been showing up on the flats. Charters this week produced ridiculous numbers of fish with many double and triple hookups. This should continue as the white bait that has been thick at the skyway will be in the upper bay any day now. With these bait pods we will also start seeing the schools of toothy mackerel and bluefish that are never far behind. Also, a few tarpon have already been hooked around the Skyway Bridge so hopefully this bodes well for an early start to the season...can't wait!!
