Fresh Buenos Aires Fishing Reports

We had an excellent afternoon of fishing!!! We were in the moments before a storm, the atmospheric pressure was low. The river was also in decline and all these conditions made the fish eat more eagerly. We did drift fishing. We used floating lines and bottom lines. The strikes were on both types of lines. We caught eels and moray eels. Taking advantage of the calm conditions, we fished in the open river, in an area that combines sand banks and deep channels. Finally, in four hours of fishing, we were able to land a very good catfish called Surubí and which is one of the most difficult fish to catch here and five very combative golden dorados. We continue to have an excellent season of Golden Dorado fishing. Today, there were many strikes. We managed to land 6 and many others managed to get off our hooks. We fished in a bank area, in the Rio de la Plata (the widest river in the world). We used 8/0 hooks, with 50 lbs steel leader and a 10 gram lead weight, which allowed the river current to move the bait at mid-water. I caught the bait early in the morning. These are small fish that here in Argentina we call "sabalitos" and that are the preferred food of all the predators **hidden content** around here. The Golden Dorado usually attacks everything that moves and is within its reach. For this reason, we also had several strikes on our floating artificial lures, quite a spectacle to see them hunt on the surface!! Today we had a very good day of fishing!!! There was a lot of golden dorado. We were able to land several on board. Even one weighing 5 kilos and several weighing 3 kilos. We used live bait and it was also a good idea to use pieces of piranha that we caught there. Bottom fishing was better than floating fishing. The water temperature remained between 24 and 26 degrees, depending on the area. We had to fish with the river in low tide and in the morning, moderate wind from the south/southeast quadrant. Later, we switched to deeper diving lures (size 1 and 2) to target the bigger ones—and boy, did it pay off! The quality of the catches here easily matches the ones from the Paraná River. We explored different spots along the river, and to our surprise, dorados were everywhere. It was a true fishing frenzy! The Secrets of Río de la Plata This massive river, with its unique basin-like shape and mix of shallow and deep areas, requires some local know-how to find where the predators are feeding. The bites are classic dorado style: subtle pulls of one or two meters before one brave fish takes off with the bait. That’s the moment to act—lock the reel, tighten the line, and set the hook hard. If the dorado gets away, no worries—leave the lure still, wait a few minutes, and try again. The sight of a golden dorado leaping out of the water is worth every effort! Rolling with the Conditions The day brought some southeast winds, causing a double tide rise. Fishing the sandbanks was pointless in those conditions, so we took shelter in a nearby creek. Casting near the reeds, we caught a baby surubí and a few more dorados. As the water settled, we headed back out, soaking in the stunning views of Buenos Aires from the river. Less than an hour later, we were back at the marina with at least six dorados each—plus a bunch of patíes. We continue fishing for Golden Dorados in the Río de la Plata Many bites, among several small ones, we have been able to catch some of good size. Fish us better on the bottom than floating. We use yellow catfish as bait, a fish called mojarra and small pieces of another fish called boga. Beautiful day!!! Fishing sheltered from the wind and with the river always down.
