Fresh Bass River Fishing Reports

We've been having a great time out on the South side of Cape Cod in the rips by Monomoy. We've had multiple slot fish and even a few larger throwbacks over the legal 35" limit. We're finding bass and blues from Handkerchief Shoals to Stonehorse and out beyond Bearse Shoals and they're hitting on trolling rigs, topwater casting, jigging, you name it. If you've ever wanted to see what all the excitement is about fishing the rips, now is the time. Don't wait, this type of action doesn't last long. As soon as the waters warm up things will change as the bigger bass will head to deeper, colder waters.

We had the privilege to fish with "Operation Reel Heroes" on Saturday, June, 4th. There were plenty of Black Sea Bass around and the rips were smoking hot with schools of Striped Bass. We had a couple of 35" fish and one at 40" that we threw back. We landed plenty of slot fish between 28" and 35" taking one to send back to CT with Kat and her son Max. Everyone had a great time. If you've ever wondered what reeling in a trophy fish feels like, this is the time to come find out. Please don't wait, they might not hang around for long.

The Striped Bass have moved into Nantucket Sound. We were out on 5/31 and there were plenty of Stripers to be had at Bishop and Clerks feeding on plugs through both casting and trolling. There were keepers in the slot range of 28" to 34". That means that the bigger fish aren't far behind and that they'll be moving out to Monomoy and the rips shortly. Plan a fishing charter for 2-4 people with us on St. Pete this summer and make a memory.

The 2022 Black Seabass and Scup Season will officially open Saturday! The bag limit has been set to 4 fish/person at a size of 16" this year. We suggest holding out for much bigger fish. Today's trip was strictly a catch-and-release excursion but it gave us a great opportunity to scout around for the larger schools of fish. We caught a lot of shorts but most of the fish were in the 16-18" range with some monsters in the 2-3 lb. range. Black Seabass make a perfect 4-hour trip whether morning or afternoon. We can always throw in a couple of large Porgies (Scup) into the bucket too. There's a limit of 50/per person for charter boats. The Tautog bite has been really hot too. Don't wait, book your trip now for the best Black Seabass fishing of the season.

Squid fishing has been slow and the weather hasn't cooperated at all 6-7' seas have kept the fleet at the docks but this coming Thursday, May 12th looks like a winner with warmer temperatures and smoother seas at 1-2'. Join us for the morning or afternoon trip for only $125/pp with a maximum of 4 people on the boat. Our last trip out was last Thursday, May 5th. The wind was blowing strong out of the north and it was cold. It was a pretty decent bite but the water temperatures were still pretty chilly at 52 degrees. This week should be better.

I took a ride out to Monomoy yesterday. From Monomoy Point to all the way past Shark Cove the shoreline was loaded with seals 5 to 10 deep in some spots. Crazy! I wonder what seals eat? We're gonna need more sharks! I was hoping to find some Cod or Haddock out at Crab Ledge but had no luck. The water temperature was right around 48 degrees.
