Fresh Folly Island Fishing Reports

The Redfish, Speckled Trout and Drum are feeding heavily as water temperatures slowly drop with the season. Live bait is always a good choice but fish are responding well to soft plastics and topwater lures. We continue to put good numbers in the boat with over 60 Redfish caught in a trip this week. I expect to have many great trips going forward when conditions are favorable. Don't miss the fall bite!

It's Tarpon time. We caught this guy right around lunchtime at mid tide today on live mullet! It put on quite a show and fought for an hour and fifty minutes, probably weighed around 100Lbs!

Charter fishing in Folly Beach fishing has been good as some slightly cooler weather has seen water temps drop by a few degrees. We fished just off the beach recently and there were large schools of Mackerel and False Albacore mixed in with some big tackle busting Jack Crevalle. This is no surprise to me as late summer and early fall are typically a great time of year to go fishing in the low country. Big Bull Redfish are piling into the inlets and Jetties, False Albacore and Spanish Mackerel are chasing baits a mile off the beach, big sharks are lurking around the sandbars. Just inshore Flounder, Black Drum, Speckled Trout and keeper Redfish are feeding in our tidal rivers and creeks on live shrimp, mud minnows and all our favorite artificials by Z-Man. Bait is abundant so a few quick throws of the cast net and we have full live wells. There is a feeding frenzy that begins in September and continues through the end of the year. Shorter days and the sudden influx of bait signals to every fish that it’s time to eat as much as they can before the water cools down. Charleston fishing Charters and Folly Beach fishing trips have been good recently as weeks of good weather and calm conditions provided some excellent fishing conditions. There is plenty of fun to be had for anglers of every age and skill level. Bait is flush in the system and now through the end of December we typically experience the best fishing of the year. The big Bull Redfish are hanging around the jetties and deep holes in the harbor. Those fish will be here until early fall. So if you want to fight big fish, book an inshore trip and lets get after them! We are catching those Bull Reds on Blue Crab, Menhaden, Mullet and cut Bluefish. Shark fishing has been a crowd pleaser as these predators hug the beaches and prowl the inlets in search of an easy meal. These fish are strong and fast, and this time of year we get some big ones near our inlets. Inshore Speckled Trout, Flounder and Redfish remain a favorite target. We have been casting assorted live bait such as finger mullet, mud minnows and shrimp to our inshore fish while some schools of inshore Redfish seem to favor cut baits. We have had luck in shallow areas of the marsh either a few hours before low tide, or just as the tide is coming in. Deep Sea trips are finding King Mackerel, Triggerfish, Cobia, Snapper, Grouper and Amberjack, Sea Bass and assorted Snapper. These trips are a lot of fun and you will never truly know what you will run into out there in the deep!

Charter fishing in Charleston and Folly Beach is in full summer mode! Our fishing charters have been focusing on the inlets and creeks inshore and reefs and rock piles off the beach. Bait has been plentiful and we have been using menhaden, mullet, shrimp and minnows depending on what we are after. We have a large concentration of fish to target inshore and nearshore. Our Nearshore fishing charters have had good luck with variety of fish within 3-5 miles off the beach. We have been catching Spadefish, Bonito, Spanish Mackerel and Redfish along with about a dozen other species. Big Redfish are making their home at the jetties right on time along with multiple inshore species being caught along the rocks. Inshore fishing has produced Trout, smaller Redfish, Sharks and Black Drum. Some days we have had to move a lot to stay on the fish and other days we have been able to sit tight in one general area and catch fish all day. Either way we always have a great time on the water.

There is nothing like Folly Beach fishing in May! By this time of year our Deep Sea and Inshore fishing charters are catching many different species of sportfish. We are able to target Bull Redfish, Sharks, Flounder, Spanish Mackerel, Speckled Trout, Black Drum and more on a daily basis. The water temperature has been hovering around 68 degrees for awhile now, so plenty of species have moved in from offshore into our coastal waters. We have been fishing in the creeks a little less and spending more time fishing the grasslines and Jetties. Warm water and plenty of natural bait has all our local game fish feeding on a more consistent basis. This is a great time of year for all kinds of fisherman.
