Lot of Marlin Sao Vicente Cape Verde

Trip Info

As the season starts to draw closer to the end, the fishing here in Cape Verde is still hot. Eight days ago we started fishing with Martin and kelvin from England. On the first day we started on San Pedro bank, the day was slow, even though fishing conditions were good. A decision was made to change venue. So early on the second day we headed off for Sao Nicolao. Where we had some great fishing, catching two double headers on top separate occasions. The water was calm and blue, with bait fish and marlin all fixed in. We had several great days fishing there and both Martin and Kelvin caught their first blue marlin and to add to that both ended catching a blue marlin on stand up. The last day of the charter produced the best results going 4-8 on blue marlin, 1-1 on mako sharks and seeing a bunch more marlin that did not bite. Overall they caught 9 marlin and 1 mako in 5 days fishing, now that’s good fishing!

Following Martin and kelvin we had are good friends Nas Khan and his son Jamel fishing with us from Kenya. Both were keen to try and catch a blue marlin on 20lb stand up tackle. With their own rod, which they had brought with them. On the first morning Jamel a 13 old boy, pitched to nice 200-250lb which he hooked up well. He fought the fish for 1hour 45mins and sadly it popped right at the end of the fight, as we had drifted into some really rough water. However it was a great effort on 20lb with the leader just out of reach on several occasions. A fight which he will remember for a long time. For the rest of their trip they caught 3 marlin in 2 days fishing all on stand up using bait and switch. With plenty more seen also. Great fun was had with them and good effort for trying to catch blue marlin on such light line. We have a few days break then will be back at it. We still have a few days available towards the end of the season. The fishing is still good and conditions are generally calmer, if anyone is interested.

That’s it for now, hope everyone has had a good weekend.
