Cabo San Lucas, Mexico Fish Report

Trip Info

Hola Guys,  Captain Kenny Busick here in Cabo San Lucas Mexico.  This is my Fishing Report for the second week of January, 2015.  We fished on the 7th, 9th, 10th and 11th on Samurai.  Here is my report for the first fishing trip aboard Samurai out of Cabo for the New Year.

On the 7th we had clients from Australia.  The Ozzie’s were a nice group of people and pretty experienced anglers.  We shared a lot of fish stories about their home and talked about their plans to return and fish with us in Cabo and also in La Paz.

We fished up the beach on the Pacific side and tried our luck up past the light house.  It was pretty slow fishing and green water all the way.  Water temperatures were around 74* and got up to 78* where we finally found some signs of life.  We managed a few small Dorado before I made the decision to move off shore.  I began to see some better, blue water about 8 to 10 miles off shore.  When we were almost into the Jaime Bank area we heard the port short corner go off on a blind strike on what we thought was a nice Wahoo.  The 50 Tiagra was dumping a lot of line and we all were pretty stoked to have what we were all believing to be a nice Wahoo on the line.  One of the ladies from the group stepped up to the rod and took control of the fish in no time.  Michelle was obviously an experienced angler and showed the men her group a thing or two about handling an obviously nice sized fish.

About 15 minutes into the fight, with Michelle in complete control, I saw color from the bridge of Samurai.  I could not believe it, but it was a FAT BULL DORADO, hooked up on a Purple Maurader!  Wow what a surprise!  This was the first time for me to hook a Dorado on the Maurader.  To have the Bull hit the Maurader and in the short corner, just a few feet off the transom really blew my mind.  Guess that goes to show you that one can never really know what might be working from day to day.  That is why they call it fishing guys!  The lady angler decided she wanted to release her fish, so we let the big bull go and congratulated Michelle on her first fish in Cabo.

The rest of the day was scheduled for the group to do some snorkeling and sight seeing so we headed back for Santa Maria Bay.  Thanks to the guys at Fishing Booker for sending us another satisfied client to fish with us in Cabo aboard the Samurai.

On the 9th. 10th and 11th we had some of the boys from Orange County California on the boat.  Great guys and we all had a lot of fun.  Fishing was very slow and the green water was everywhere, but it did not deter the crew of Samurai or her guests!  Great PFA was in the air and it finally paid off.

On the second day I made the call to head 30 miles off shore into what looked like would be blue water.  We did finally manage to find the Dolphin and then the Tuna in the afternoon.  We managed to put some nice Sashimi Grade Tuna on the boat and the fish was prepared for our clients by Chef Erick!  I tell you one thing guys, that you will never have fresher or tastier fish than what you can catch and then prepare with a Sushi Chef right on the boat!  The boys went crazy and everyone had a lot of fun, wish you could have been there with us!  One of the boys from OC and I saw a HUGE Yellowfin Tuna flying about 30 yards right in front of the boat at 12 o’clock.  We almost did from excitement.  We thought for sure we were going to get into the mother lode.

Unfortunately the bite never really got going or organized.  It was percolating and we did put the Tuna on the boat, but it never did get wide open.  Next time for sure!Hey listen up guys,  I am hearing a lot of talk about how you want to go fishing.  I hear this day after day about how you really want to go fish with us.  Then what happens?  You don’t book a boat or a flight and you just keep working?  You can’t just keep saying that you WANT to go fishing guys.  You have to actually book a boat, then book a flight and get your ass out of the office and down to Cabo or La Paz and then we can go get her done!

What are you waiting for?  The 2015 Calendar is already booking up quickly.  The smart anglers are selecting all the best dates already. There are still plenty of good dates and good times available, but the calendar is getting full quickly.  I want to encourage you to take a leap of faith and book what I promise will be “A trip of a Lifetime” with us on the Samurai soon!  Of course we cannot guarantee the fishing, but I can personally guarantee you are going to have the time of your life.  I am enclosing some photos of our fishing and food and will look forward to serving you soon.  We are now offering packages for group of 4 to 6 anglers with super nice accommodations, luxury VIP boat, Restaurant Quality Food and Sushi and even and Open Bar, all included.  All you have to do is show up and have a blast.  What could be more fun and what could be easier?  Our one price includes everything, so you know exactly what to expect before you get here.
