Trip Info

Summary

Today we caught a mega shark…8 ft long!  The trip started out slow.  The seas were rough and bait was scarce.  Luckily the bait boat saved us by rustling up some live cigar minnows.  We went out about 20 miles where the seas became calmer and we were able to fish.  Since the full moon had just passed the fish were biting slowly.  We were able to get 6 snappers in the boat.  We moved to a grouper spot and Brian hooked up on a huge 8 ft shark.  His rod had 300 lb test but the leader was only 60 lbs.  The hook was just a small size 5 medium circle hook.  The shark was hooked in the lip and could not bite the line.  He was able to wrestle the big boy to the surface.  About 30 minutes later he hooked into another shark and he fought it for about 30 minutes before it finally broke the line.  We didn’t get to see it but it was much bigger than the one that came to the surface.  Although we didn’t go out to catch shark this one was the first large shark this angler has ever caught.  Great fishing trip!!  We took video of the shark coming to the surface but it was too large to post.
