Sea Bass time

Trip Info

We had an impressive trip catching sea bass (wreckfish) to 26kg on Saturday the 25th. It was part two of the Double Glazing guys Wellington fishing competition. Steve brown caught a 5.5kg warehou which was the best fish caught inshore on the weekend and Anthony Sanger caught a 9.3kg spotty shark (rig) from the beach. There were 250 anglers taking part over the two weekends for this years comp, including 17 kids, 20 juniors, 35 ladies and 8 kayaks. About a third of the entrants fished from the shore and the rest in the boat.
There’s been a number of hapuku and bluenose caught recently in the deepwater and a few snapper still getting caught on the south coast and out west. Winter fishing is usually pretty good in Wellington and this year is no exception.
