Trip Info

Deepwater (200-300mtr) - Good numbers of bluenose were caught at Nicolsons Trench last weekend (up to 15kgs) and alot of small hapuka have been caught at Ohau Point. There’s still a few big puka around but most have gone spawning now and will be back around mid October Its prime time for large bass (last year we got them up to 40kgs)
Inshore - Weve had particularly good tarakihi fishing of late on the 50mtr mark out from the airport reef. I was surprized to catch 3 rat kingis there too. We lost two nice trevally at the boat and caught some good gurnard as well. I wouldnt mind betting there are some big kingfish out on the 100mtr pinacles off Wainui and Turakerei.
Harbour - Large bluecod have been comonplace especially around Seatoun and Falcon Shoal. The usual kahawai, elephantfish, trevs and gurnard are around Ward ialand and the stretch down to Pencarrow.
Surfcasting - Has been tough with the southerly swells but when conditions are righ theres a good chance of trevally and gurnard at White rock and Pencarrow, Trevally at Makara beach (after dark) and spotty sharks through Palliser bay.
Whitebaiting - there’s been excellent results coming from the Spit and Lake Ferry along with rampaging kahawai
