First time fishing
It was a nice day of fishing on the Indian River Lagoon for Art and AJ Schaffer of Port Saint Lucie, FL. It was little AJ’s first time fishing so I decided it best to Fish for Snapper at the Bridges and structure. We set out with a live well with 3 dozen shrimp and pound of frozen Squid for bait. We anchored up at North Bridge during the incoming tide and I gave instructions on how to fish along with demonstrations. It didn’t take long for the Penn rod/reel combos to start twitching. We landed some nice Mangrove Snapper and it sure was a joy watching little AJ catch his first fish. There was a lot of excitement on the Boat and dad was grinning ear to ear. After fishing the bridge for a while longer, I decided to hit some of the channel markers on our way to the next spot which would be off the water treatment plant just South of the South Bridge. With the fall Mullet run in effect, we were ready when a school of jacks came racing through. We had fish on 3 rods at the same time and jacks sure are fun to catch. When Art reeled in what we thought was going to be a jack, ended up being a 17 inch Mutton Snapper much to our surprise and satisfaction! Wow what a day on the water I sure didn’t want it to come to an end.
The father and son combo of the Schaffer’s caught over a dozen fish and were able to take home a bag full of Snapper filets for dinner.
